Adult students – Opening the discussion

.

DiscussionClick to expand

Sometimes educators have difficulty talking to students about a suspected learning difficulty. It is helpful to start by asking one or two simple questions and building on students’ responses:

  1. Do you have difficulties with reading/writing/spelling?
  2. What kinds of difficulties do you have?
  3. Did you have difficulty learning to read as a child?
  4. Have you ever been tested for a learning difficulty?
  5. Is there anything that I can help you with?
  6. Would you like me to refer you for testing/extra support/counselling/other support?
