Helen: Classrooms are busy places and everyone has their own perspective of everything that happens in the class. Each person’s view of the world is different and contains both the physical and an emotional component. In this scene, the child is feeling lost. She isn’t quite sure what to do with her bag and no one is helping. She decides to sit at the back but is called to the front, which draws the classrooms attention to her as she moves, this causes her to become embarrassed. Asking the child to move may seem like a simple request to the teacher, but for a child who might be quite shy, it can cause fear and more embarrassment.

The child then finds she cannot see and hear in her new seat which leads to her being excluded from learning. All young children need help to feel included both emotionally and physically. It is for us to check all children can see and be included in the learning process.
