In this paper, a numerical assessment of the potential for urban wind energy is presented. The results propose an efficient approach for installing wind turbines on the high-rise buildings with wind power potential in a dense urban region.

Highlights:

•A large-scale wind power estimation is implemented in realistic high-rise urban areas. •Impacts of existing high-rise building features on wind power are analyzed. •Accuracy of CFD simulations are validated by on-site measurements in two seasons. •Effective strategy of turbine installation is considered for high-rise buildings.

In our class, we have shown few cases of wind power estimation using numerical assessments to evaluate wind power potential and installation arrangements in Hong Kong.
