Subgingival debridement was found to be an effective treatment in reducing the probing pocket depth and improving the clinical attachment level. Treatment results in a pocket depth reduction due to recession of the gingiva and gain in clinical attachment level. When a pocket depth smaller or equal to 5mm is reached, the treatment can be considered successful. Various factors have an impact on the success of active non-surgical periodontal therapy.
