Salivary Gland Diseases

2-14

Here are several signs and symptoms that occur when we don’t have enough saliva. Lack of saliva causes food particles to stick in the mouth, then which may result in gingivitis and eventually progress to periodontitis. The accumulated bacteria biofilm on the teeth causes inflammation that leads to the degradation of mucous membranes and becomes oral ulceration or mucositis. These individuals routinely face speech problems, and simply chewing and swallowing everyday foods becomes difficult.

The condition often accompanies other immune system disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. The doctor might also examine your glands to see if there is any sign of inflammation that may cause gland enlargement.

Change your dietary habits, like avoiding alcohol, quitting smoking, and avoiding some medications that cause dry mouth symptoms. You could also take high quality of proteins or supplements to keep your body healthy. Mouth rinse is also suggested to prevent oral infections that might worsen dry mouth symptoms.
