Airports, train stations, shops, tourist scenic spots, even squares; the surge of tourists everywhere indicates we are in an era of prosperity for global tourism.

What has made these destinations world-famous and built a firm bridge between destinations and tourists?

Is it the instigation of tourism policy, or the effective utilization of the unique tourism resources, or the blooming tourism market demand, or a sustainable tourism planning and implementation in tourism destination?

All these questions are answered in our course-tourism policy and planning.

This course will help you to understand the whole process of tourism destination development which includes: tourism resource analysis, tourism demand analysis, tourism products, events and experiences development, tourism spatial planning and plan assessment and evaluation

These contents will be presented by four world-renowned experts in tourism planning and me. Welcome to our course.

Meet the Course Educators

  • Kun Zhang, Lead Educator of this course, Lecturer at the School of Tourism and Service Management, Nankai University. She got his Ph.D. degree from the Kassel university in Germany. Her research interests include tourism sustainable planning and destination image, she has 13 publications and is a reviewer of Tourism Management.

  • Carson Lewis Jenkins, Educator of this course, Emeritus professor of international Tourism University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Scotland, Visiting Professor, School of Tourism and Service Management, Nankai University, Previously visiting Scholar, School of Professional Education and Executive Development at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

  • Bihu Wu, Educator of this course, Professor at College of Urban and Environmental Sciences, Peking University, Beijing, China. He is currently the director of the Tourism Research and Planning Center in the College of Urban and Environmental Sciences, Peking University. He is also an expert member of the China Tourism Reform and Development Advisory Committee and vice president of the China Tourism Education Association.

  • Ludwig. G. Rieder, Educator of this course, Nine years as Director of Research Policy and Planning at the New South Wales Department of Tourism in Australia and over thirty years in the private sector as chairman of Challenger Hotel Corp., Tourism Director of Perry Development Finance, and as a tourism management consultant and advisor. Mr. Rieder is a cofounder of Asia Pacific Projects, Inc. a tourism and infrastructure development services firm founded in Manila, the Philippines in 1992. Mr. Rieder advises UNWTO, ADB, UNDP, USAID, ASEAN Secretariat, and national governments throughout the Asia and Pacific Region.

  • Geoffrey Wall, Educator of this course, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Department of Geography and Environmental Management, Faculty of Environment, University of Waterloo, Canada, has long been engaged in geography teaching and research. The main research directions are tourism, leisure and vacation, and the impact of climate change on social economy. More than 200 academic articles have been published.
