Welcome back

TOD and the future of cities

This week we’ll be looking at some practical examples of TOD in action. We’ll start by exploring the types of urban facilities there are at railways stations, and the sort of facilities we need to consider to create more integration between the land use and the transport system.

We’ll look at some on-the-ground examples of places where transport modes and the urban landscape intersect.

Our virtual travels will take us to the Netherlands and its long history of incorporating TOD principles into urban design. We’ll visit 3 urban centres there that exemplify the planning ideas of Luca Bertolini and others.

In an interactive exercise, we’ll take a tour of Hamburg and apply what we’ve observed in our theoretical case studies. We’re going to learn how to identify balanced and unbalanced urban nodes and places to understand how best to apply TOD principles.
