Expert discussion on land use planning in the extractives sector

In this recorded expert discussion, Sybil and Thomas touch upon different topics related to land use planning in the extractives industry.

In today’s recorded expert discussion, we have the chance to welcome two high level experts in land use planning. You will be able to listen to their discussion and have the possibility to ask questions directly in the following Q&A session.

Sybil Berne (MIPI, MRTPI) is a planner. She has a Masters in Regional and Urban Planning from UCD and a Postgraduate Diploma in Marine Spatial Planning. Since joining MacCabe Durney Barnes in 2012, she has prepared and coordinated planning applications and environmental impact statements on a variety of subjects and has undertaken work as part of the pre-feasibility stage of a lead/zinc mine. She has worked on several research projects on behalf of State Agencies, particularly on environmental assessment, renewable energy and on marine spatial planning. She also drafted policy guidance and best practice documents. She is currently finalising a MSc in Marine Spatial Planning at the University of Ulster.

Thomas Hartmann is an Associate Professor at the Landscape and Spatial Planning Group of Wageningen University. He is an expert in two fields: land policy and flood risk management. He has researched on sustainable land management and land policy, as well as innovative approaches in planning instruments and policy integration. for about 15 years. He is also in many international and professional networks relevant to the project. He is author of numerous relevant publications on land policy, spatial planning and policy instruments, the current vice-president of the International Academic Association on Planning Law and Property Rights and involved in relevant networks such as a COST Action on Public Value Capture and an expert commission on Land Readjustment of the Dutch Cadastre.
