Exercise: visualise essential climate variables

Visualise essential climate variables

Earlier on, you learnt about satellite products of essential climate variables, now you will be able to visualise and compare some of these variables using the Climate from Space web application.

Please share your answers and discuss them with other participants.

  1. Go to the Climate from Space web application
  2. From the data layer on the right-hand side, identify those variables that describe the land.
    • how many variables can you identify?
  3. Visualise them and run through their changes with time.
    • what do you observe from the temporal change of the selected variables?
    • can you explain these changes?
  4. With the comparison function, try to find another variable (not necessarily describing the same system) and compare between the two variables.
    • why do you think these two variables could be related?
    • what do you observe from this comparison?

Congratulations, you have reached the end of this activity! In the next activity, we will introduce the ESA CCI Climate Analysis Toolbox CATE. With CATE it is possible to process, analyse and visualise essential climate variables.
