Hi, and welcome to week two. Hopefully, after week 1, you’re feeling confident that you know more about IELTS listening now. You might even have found some of the practise tasks from section one last week quite easy. You’ll get to practise tasks from different sections of the test this week and in week three. But apart from practise tasks, and just generally knowing more about the test itself, there’s something else you can do. Try listening to something completely new in English. You shared what you listened to at the beginning of last week, and you might already listen to a lot of English, whether through listening to music, watching a lot of TV, or something else.

But it’s not just about the quantity of listening you do. Why not try to step out of your comfort zone a little and listen to something completely different. Being comfortable with different contexts and different styles of speaking can really help you prepare for your IELTS and build your confidence in English in general. If you’ve taken the IELTS reading course with us, you’ll remember that we spoke about widening your range of reading. It’s the same with listening. What do you think you could listen to in order to widen your range? Let us know in the comments below.

Welcome to Week 2! Watch Sally introduce this week of the course.

As well as learning specific details about the IELTS Listening test on this course, you can also improve your chances by listening to a greater variety of recordings in English.

As Sally says, it’s not just about spending more time listening to English, but more about trying to widen the range of what you listen to.
