Syllabus for UX Capstone

In the previous UX Research and Design ExpertTracks courses, you’ve learned all the basic skills required for UX research and design. The next step towards mastery is to put them all together to design an interactive product that solves a real-world problem.

This Capstone is part of the User Experience (UX) Research and Design ExpertTracks offered by the University of Michigan.

In this Capstone you will:

  • Gain practical experience in UX Research and Design
  • Synthesize methods and theories from previous courses
  • Carry out a significant, realistic project from start to finish, applying UX methods in an iterative design process
  • Produce a portfolio project that can show employers what you can do

Effort

The Capstone consists of 6 project milestones (including a final report). Each milestone will require 10+ hours of work to complete successfully. Only the final milestone, your final report will be graded by your peers, however you will find you get the most out of this course if you participate in all of the course gallery opportunities (with one optional submission for each milestone).

You can work at your own pace, though you will find the most benefits if you can allocate at least 5-10 hours per week to working on your project and engaging with other learners in the course galleries.

Three tests are included throughout the course, in order to provide opportunities to test your understanding of the material as you work through the course.

Capstone Schedule & Grading Policy

Capstone materials will be released as available and remain open and available for self-paced learning. You will have to complete each assignment before “unlocking” the ability to submit the following assignment.

Honor Code & Discussion Etiquette

While learning from each other is very important we all recognize the difference between collaboration and simply copying and pasting work done by others. You are strongly encouraged to work collaboratively using good judgment. Similarly, please respect all copyright rules of all materials, including books, articles, etc.

Contact with the Educator

Given the large number of students, the educator should not be contacted directly with any questions. While we appreciate the time and effort you put into the Capstone, responding to questions is virtually impossible. Instead, please direct your questions to the comments and milestone galleries in the course.
