Introducing the Human Hive Framework

We’ll be sharing a lot more tips about language activities you can do with your learners in Week 3, but for now we will continue to focus on how you teach, rather than what you are teaching. Remember that Human Hive lessons are built around activities, not traditional grammar and vocabulary, so what you teach is really determined by your and your learners’ interests. You can download a copy of the Human Hive Framework here.

As you can see, the Framework is divided into six stages around the central concept ‘Meet Them Where They’re At’, which we looked at in Step 2.9. Each stage has an inner and outer message making up two rings around the centre.

  • The Inner Ring refers to the teacher experience and acts as a reminder for you of how to create a safe space for learning.
  • The Outer Ring refers to the learner experience in the different stages of your activity.

Together they serve as a tool for planning activities and a checklist to help you stay present in the moment with your learners.

Download this blank version of the Framework and use it to make notes for yourself about each stage as we explain them in more detail over the next three steps. We will begin with the Inner Ring as this is focused on you as the teacher.
