Conclusion

Come to Dove Cottage, Grasmere and Lancaster University
9.9
We’ve now come to the end of our course, Wordsworth, Poetry, People, and Place. We hope you’ve enjoyed this introduction to Wordsworth’s poetry. And we hope you’ve appreciated the chance to explore that poetry here in the very place that it was written and that it was written about. We also hope that you’ve enjoyed the chance to look at Wordsworth’s manuscripts, as we’ve had the opportunity to in the Jerwood Centre here and to think about the processes of writing themselves. We also hope, though, that this isn’t the end of your friendship with Wordsworth or your time in Grasmere. We’d like to invite you to join us here at Dove Cottage in Grasmere.

We’d like you to come and have a look around the cottage, to visit the Jerwood Centre, and have a look at the actual manuscripts we’ve been working on, and also to get a sense of the village itself. This whole area Wordsworth described as the loveliest spot that man had ever found. If you are visiting, the Wordsworth Trust have a very full programme of events that you might like to participate in. You can find out about those on their website, wordsworth.org.uk. So we hope to see you again here, in Grasmere’s happy vale.

In this short film, Professor Simon Bainbridge brings the course to a close and invites you to make your own visit to Dove Cottage and Grasmere.
