Summary

Explore version control basics. Learn to use Git to organize, track changes, and collaborate on code. Perfect for developers at any level.

In this activity, you have had your first go at using Git. You learned how to set up your first repository on GitHub and use both command line Git and the Codespaces interface to add, commit and push your code. Remember to do this at regular intervals to keep your code safe.

But that was just the beginning. You also got to see the power of branching and merging in action. These tools allow multiple versions of code to exist in a repository simultaneously, which is essential when working with others on a collaborative project.

You’ve had the chance to explore some of the many fantastic open-source projects distributed through GitHub. You can even think about how you might contribute to this incredible source of computing knowledge.

Next week

You’re going to discover how to create detailed, structured documentation using a special language called Markdown. With this powerful tool at your disposal, you’ll be able to communicate your ideas and share your work with others in a clear and concise way.

But that’s not all. You’ll also learn about GitHub’s Projects tool, which will help you to organise and manage larger projects with ease. With Projects, you can keep track of tasks, collaborate with others and stay on top of deadlines. It’s the ultimate project management tool.
