HANNEKE WIGMAN: As you just heard in the story of William, psychosis can make you experience all different kinds of symptoms. The world can feel strange or overwhelming. You can have the feeling of chaos in your head. And in this case, you might feel very confused or have trouble keeping your thoughts in line. The chaos in your head may also make you feel very different than you usually feel. Also you might experience all kinds of things that you usually do not experience. For example, you might hear a voice or multiple voices that other people cannot hear or you might see things that other people cannot see or you might have ideas that are not true.

For example, you might have the feeling that people are up to no good and are trying to harm you or that someone is trying to steal your thoughts like William told us. These kind of thoughts and feelings can be quite scary. Other symptoms that can be part of the psychosis are the feeling that you have no motivation or no energy for things such as school or sports or even seeing your friends. You might even feel that the only thing you want to do is be alone in your room, and these symptoms can look a little bit like the symptoms of depression.

Having such symptoms can give you the feeling that you’re all alone and you might feel completely cut off from the rest of the world.
You just heard about the voice William heard, but there are other things that you could experience during psychosis. In this video Hanneke Wigman uses an animation to explain what kind of experiences you could have during psychosis.
