Is economic globalisation a good thing?

There are competing perspectives. Globalisation is a complex topic, and experts pinpoint both positives and negatives. Sometimes, these pros and cons are two sides of the same coin.

For instance, one might say that transnational corporations (TNCs) operating factories in less economically developed countries (LEDCs) can alleviate local economic hardship. The flip side is that many TNCs are from more economically developed countries (MEDCs), which indicates a power imbalance that critics note is a form of neocolonialism. Reports of unsafe and/or unfair working conditions are common, the garment industry in Bangladesh is a case in point.
