Gain an insight into the regulation in the oil and gas sector

You’ll start by delving into the fundamental theories behind regulation in the oil and gas industry.

Through this exploration, you’ll learn about the frameworks that govern the oil and gas industry globally.

Grasp health and safety law and environmental regulation

You’ll unpack the environmental regulations impacting the oil and gas industry. This includes exploring public and private law, as well as prevention strategies, liability issues, and approaches to protecting vulnerable areas.

Unpack case studies such as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill

You’ll analyse and compare two core regulatory systems that govern the industry today. First is the US prescriptive approach, which abides by specific instructions provided by regulators to operators.

Next is the North Sea objective-based regime. This is a principle-based regulatory framework that has operated since the loss of lives on Piper Alpha in 1988.
