  • The figure with the temperature anomalies does not show any type of gas concentrations. The statement that follows the figure, which reads "The data suggests a severe increase in the gas emission from 1850 to 2019." it is incorrect. Since the information displayed in the figure is only temperature data and there is no way to make any visible relationship with...

  • Hi, my name is Pedro. I am originally Mexican but I am currently living in Germany doing a PhD. I research atmospheric circulations and how might change due to climate change. However, I am here because my understanding of the causes of climate change is limited and would like to know more about it.

  • Hello everyone, I am Pedro originally from Mexico. I am just starting PhD on Climate-Weather Related Topics investigating variability and extremes over Europe. I would like to improve and expand my understanding of the use of statistics and visualization to obtain better results during my research. Greetings everyone!

  • One of the Main challenges a scientist (especially in poor or developing countries) could face when wanting to use these huge Datasets is not having the computing power and/or the technical skills to manipulate and extract the best of that information for their research.

  • I think nowadays with social media, more than ever, communicating climate science has to be done very graphically for people to quickly understand it in a very effective way. Dr. Hawkins has managed to do so in a very impressive way that has reached people that do not know anything about science but can understand with no problem what the graphic wants to...

  • Hi, I am Pedro a Meteorologist from Mexico. I find myself quite usually working with big atmospheric archives of data whether it is about a Forecast, about a Climatic Prediction or from Reanalysis. I would like to learn a bit more about how big data works nowadays and how I could improve my current knowledge about the topic.

  • I constantly use data from Weather Model's Outputs and Atmospheric Reanalysis which help me to forecast and understand better the past and future climate.

  • Don not worry about it, the courses are always availables for a loooooong time after it finishes.

  • I live in the tropics so I have experienced Tropical Storms and a couple of Hurricanes. Very strong winds along the coastal area and a lot of rain and floodings. I have never been under a mid-latitude depression, but I would love so.

  • Here I go (sorry If y make mistakes with my english):

Fig 1. High pressure system to the East bringing light Easterly (to the southern parts of the UK) and Southeasterly (North UK) winds. Clear skies for most of the country with some Cu clouds and maybe high temperatures taking into account that is July.

Fig. 2. Cirrus clouds to the East of UK due to the...

  • Not really... during summer air is warmer and warm air tend to rise, so the pressure is commonly lower and during winter air is colder and tends to be heavier with higher pressure systems... well at least that is what happens here in the tropics :/ i think is not exactly the same in the UK. Got confused right now

  • it shows a 'horizontal' movement along lines of latitud. Warm air moving towards poles and cold air moving towards tropics.

  • I just got graduated on Atmospheric Sciences in Mexico but here the insterest is always related to Tropical Weather Systems. I would love to learn about non-tropical synoptic systems and how they evolve and affect the weather.

  • Here in Mexico I usually take a look to the website of the National Weather Service, but due to the lack of technology and research related to Meteorology, the weather forecasts are not that trustables as they should be. Not many meteorologist in my country.

  • The last paragraph scared me a bit. English is not my first language, hope won't be a real problem :(

  • Google académico (as we call it in Spanish) is a very helpful tool when you don't know where to start but I usually use online journals, there is always trustable information and very well referenced to do further readings.

  • I thought it was "Share".

  • The main reason is because I'd love to get a Master Degree in UK and IELTS is one of the most accepted exams there, I think. Also here is the opportunity to improve my english skills.

  • Hello. My Name is Pedro and I live en Mexico. I'm here because I'd like to apply for a Master Degree in UK and of course English is escencial. I hope to learn a lot here. Greetings

  • Hello everyone. I'm from México and I'm here because I'm really interested on doing a Master degree in UK. I'm studying Atmospheric Sciences by the way.

  • I live next to the Gulf of Mexico and in September 2010 a Hurricane hit into our country and there was almost 1,000 mm of rain in one day in the mountains and it caused severe floods along many rivers here, included my own hometown where the level of flood was about 1 meter but the force of the water stream was really strong and dragged doors, cars and...

  • Here in Mexico the people throw away everything to the rivers and the dirty water is thrown into the sea. Nowadays we cannot swim in some beaches or make some use of the water available in rivers because it's really dirty and people sometimes get ill because of it. Also there is a lot of deforestation, so water bodies can not keep the water for so long as in...

  • They usually get heights about 30 km before explode

  • They do that also. It's a combination between satellites and data obtained in surface to have an idea of the temperatures distribution. Both are useful

  • You can download the video instead of watching it online. Good luck!

  • Thanks. This has been really helpful for me. I just had a test about feedbacks and climate change at my college, in my class of "Physical Climatology" and this really helped me to understand it.

  • I am looking forward to get my Master there, It'd be amazing. Also, I've been looking at your webpage and I am really interested in Meteorology. I don't know how, but I'll get it. Thanks for your advice, I'd love to...
    Greetings from Mexico. (:

  • do not feel like that, it is never too late to learn something new. It's amazing to see that you are insterested to learn about it even your background is completely different, congratulations.

  • Hello everyone, I'm Pedro, 22 years old and I'm from Mexico. By now I'm studying Atmopheric Sciences at the University of Veracruz and I hope to get my college degree the next semester. I am here because I'm really interested about all the subjects about the weather and climate and this is an amazing oportunity to get some knowledge about it, also I'd love to...

  • Hi everyone, My name is Pedro, 21 years old, Mexican and I'm studying atmospherics sciences and the Math is really necessary for me, so I just to learn a little bit more about these whole world.

  • It is clear what he wants to say about his Country but he just need to improve his grammar

  • I have a total of 15.37 tonnes/year.
    Can't believe!
It's a huge quantity comparing at looking at the others results.

  • Before this course I didn't really wanted to know something about climatology or climate change, but now I have so many questions and so many things that I'd like to learn about this whole world of knowledge.
I really apreciate to have had the opportunitty to take this amazing course and I'm sure I'll share with people about this and take inmediate actions to...

  • I live just next to the Gulf of Mexico and many cities are placed next to the sea because of their fisher and livestock activities. If the level of the sea rises even less than 1 metre, all the economic activities will be affected and maybe these people would have to move to others cities where they can work and it might carry to have cities with more...

  • I do really agree with you. Excellent comment.

  • Firstly you should start writing about how is the country and some of the main characteristics.
Then start describing how the life used to be there some decades ago. How the people used to live, what they used to eat, how they used to communicate each other, how they used to travel and customs. Next, start comparing them with the life nowadays and remarking...

  • Hello, I'm Pedro, I'm from Mexico, I'm 21 years old and I'm studying a degree in Atmospheric Sciencies at the University of Veracruz.

    - I haven't had the opportunity to write so much on English, just in some English classes and chats with friends. I have read and heard a lot but I think I need to improve my skills on writing.

    - I think academic writing...

I'm here because I really like english and also I'd like to get a master in the UK, so I hope to learn as much as possible from this course and to improve my skills. Good luck for everyone!

  • Here in my city I just have heard about a local grupo of Green Peace

    https://www.facebook.com/GreenpeaceVoluntariosVeracruz?fref=ts

  • This is called "USBI" and is the library of my College and its design reduces the energy consumption during the day because of the clear windows that allows to use the natural daylight of the sun. Also there are not air condition system because the materials help to keep the temperature inside and local wind currents are exploited to the maximum to keep cooler...

  • www.innovateuk.org is currently undergoing maintenance =/

  • Not really, the problem is that in a warming world these "threats" for our crops are moving towards the poles and places that never were under risk.

  • In the cities the phenomena of the urban heat island will be a disadvantage when the heat waves strike. I think there some projects developing about how to build being friendly with the environment.

  • I have learned a lot about the ocean acidification, I never heard about it before and I ask myself what other consecuenses might have on the organisms and the humans, so I'll look for more information about it.

  • 1. We don't really know how the organisms are going react to such a ocean acidification by the 2100, they might adapt or not.

    2. There's not relation with the ocean acidification and the sea level raise, they're two different threats for the human. The acidification might affect us being a threat for the organisms who lived in the sea and are necesary for...

  • They're realistic but some could be really expensive and some others not effectives. Even if we can use the aerosols that are the less expensive and (apparently) the more effectives, it may have impacts on the distribution of incoming energy from the sun.
Each option must be analized really carefully and be combined with the reduction of the greenhouse gas...

  • Yes, it does. We're starting to feel the consecuences and if we continue doing the same, the temperatures will rise as much as the climate models says, but not just the temperatures, there are also other changes in the atmospheric and ocean motions that could change completly the climate as we know today.

It's interesting to see that some of the countries are decreasing their emissions of CO2 since 2009, except China who is increasing them.

    According to the graph...

  • I live next to the Gulf of Mexico and one of the major threats in my community are the hurricanes on summer and consequents floods because of the existence of many rivers around here.

Other examples mentioned about the observations are the increases in atmospheric water vapor, decrease in the extent of mountain glaciers, permafrost and Artic sea ice.

    One...

  • The north emisphere looks to have the highest increase in the temperatures in 2050-2074 and if we look to Antartica it looks really different, the increase will be not that high.

  • According to that in my country (Mexico) the summer is gonna be warmer for about 3°C but winter doesn't show that high anomaly, just around 1°C warmer. It says that on winter will rain more but less on summer, less in general.

  • The nearest link to me was "Hurricane Carlota" on 2012, but I have to say that here in Mexico we are used to the Hurricanes during the summer. I live in Veracruz next to the Gulf of Mexico and on summer there's always hurricanes and storms but I have to say that the last years they have caused more damaged than in the past, the floods are more usual here.

  • The most important thing that I've learnt this week is that the climate is always changing and the actual global warming is not the first on the earth and also won't be last one. The difference today is that we are doing the neccesary to accelerate the warming.

I find interesting how the aerosols play an important role in the climate change even they look...

  • How is today’s warming different from the past?

According to the evidence obtained from the bubbles in the ice and the tree rings, it's said that since 800,000 years ago we have had periods with climate changes from warmer (greater than today) to colder ones. The difference between those changes in ancient times and now is that the current climatic warming...

  • I have to say I'm studying atmospheric sciences and I just learned a lot of things about climate and how it works.

    1. The sun rays strike the Earth's surface and there are some gases (water vapor, methane, carbon dioxide, mainly) which are capable to trap the longwave radiation that is emmited back from the Earth towards the space and by this way many of...

  • Weather change every minute and every day, when a storm appears the weather changes but we cann't easily know by ourselves if the climate has changed in the last 30 years (al least) and that's why we look at those maps and graphics to see how the climate is changing.

  • Is good to know the differences between weather and climate and I'd like that everyone could know that because here in my country the people doesn't know the differences and they just say Climate.
