  • Hi @JacquelineWrigley, I haven't had anyone run into that problem yet so I'm uncertain on the cause is. I'd suggest trying to contact FutureLearn to see if they can resolve the issue or shed light on why it's happening: https://www.futurelearn.com/info/about/contact-us

  • Well done on challenging yourself @JoanneDalton - the first step into a new area is always the hardest!

  • @AuraxFernando R and Excel are a fantastic combination, I'm sure you'll get a lot from the course!

  • A great example @BrianWorthington - I use histograms for this exact task often

  • Excellent examples @MaríaCristinaOsorio !

  • Absolutely @ROELMORALESMAGDA - visuals are how people are hardwired to take in the most information and there is a lot of interesting theory about the best way to present data.

  • Thanks for joining us @FleurDickens :)

  • Welcome @BrahimMarsi !

  • We'll have part 2 ready soon @KomalWani, see you there!

  • See you in part 2 @amnakhalil !

  • You're exactly right @AiméeReis, and I'm glad you see the value in this course as well as the Big Data one. The foundations of analytics are key to properly understanding and facing the challenges of today's "Big Data" world. I hope you continue learning!

  • Thanks for the kind feedback Linda - it means a lot! Hopefully its just the start of your learning with us as well :)

  • Hi @JayGohel, yes that is what we would ordinarily do to decide which goes where.

  • Hi @Kh. , @DanielRomero and @LorenaSofíaCabrera. It seems that the page is a little overloaded at the moment, but we are hoping to fix it soon. Thanks for your patience!

  • Hi everyone, it seems that a few people are also encountering a problem with uploading to the padlet. It is likely due to the number of files that have been uploaded so far - everyone has blown us away with the number of creative graphs they've made. We've asked FutureLearn to try to clean it up a bit and make space for new additions, so hopefully its all...

  • Hi @AlejaMolina, I'm glad you think you'll be able to apply these lessons! A lot of what we learned can be applied in financial investing, especially the coefficient of variation when you need to decide between different investment options.

  • Its great to hear that we managed to add something new for you! While the mean and standard deviation are great at describing a single variable, coefficient of variation is really useful for when we have to compare multiple variables.

  • It's great to hear you enjoyed the course! We hope to see you in part 2. Opt in if you want to get notified about it :)

  • Thanks for the kind words @LucaNahuelLago. We hope to see you again in part 2!

  • We'll look forward to seeing you in the second part. Remember to opt in so you get notified :)

  • We're glad to hear you enjoyed it and we hope to see you in Part 2!

  • Congratulations on finishing! We hope to see you in Part 2. Remember to opt in to get notified about it :)

  • Hi @AdetayoAdeleye, the data for this video is available on the padlet site: https://padlet.com/danielhope/opo53bxo1tu41woq
The data we use in the course was uploaded by the FutureLearn team and can be found near the bottom of the page. It might also take a bit to load because we have been amazed at how many examples you have all shared!

  • Ah, I understand now @JohnBraithwaite. You are correct that we have formulas in Excel for automatically calculating variance and standard deviation, but they don't work properly here. Those formulas are intended for the more common scenario where you have recorded a lot of data over some time period and want to directly calculate those statistics. For example,...

  • We completely agree @MontserratColomer. Using a method without understanding often leads to nonsensical results or the wrong decisions. We need understanding, and then we can start doing proper analytics!

  • Its always great to hear that someone has been able to apply these lessons outside of the course, well done @DavidClementino

  • @ErikaLilianaRodriguezSerrano You're exactly right!

  • Hi @JohnBraithwaite, I'm not sure I understand the question. We used this data set with the variance and standard deviation formulas to arrive at a variance of 1.24 and a standard deviation of 1.11. Let me know if I've misunderstood and I'll be happy to help :)

  • @EdreesAhmedAbdulaziz There is a free certificate for completing the course and the final test :)

  • @JasonBarton Generally, we get our probabilities with the empirical method. In this example, it is reasonable to expect that the company has done a survey of people to work out the proportion who like the taste and the colour. You are right that we are assuming that them liking the colour would mean they would want to eat it.

  • @BeateDoerre They are very closely related ideas. Stochastic is generally just a fancy way of saying "random". We use probabilities to describe 'stochastic' variables, though we will call them random variables in this course. You'll get familiar with what these are in the next few videos :)

  • @FerminCajica Thanks Fermin, we've been very impressed with the engagement of students as well!

  • @FelixCanoFlores Another excellent quote to add to the list!

  • @ElaineMaynard It's great to hear that you're taking the lessons here and finding places to apply them in your own work!

  • @VijayYadav Thanks for the positive feedback! It's great to hear you enjoyed the course :)

  • @BobHawkins Thats an excellent and very current example Bob. We'll have to add it to the list in https://www.statisticshowto.com/misleading-graphs/

  • @MirkoVlahovic I'm glad you enjoyed the ethics content, its an important topic to me as well. Its great to see you thinking about real questions you could start to answer using what you have learned as well!

  • @ShelleyAnderson I'm glad you took a lot away from this week (and hopefully continue to do so for week 2 as well!). The ethics part often isn't something people think of when it comes to analytics but its something I feel is really important. I think we would all be better off if we were a little bit more critical when looking at information presented to us....

  • @LisaH I know it might take a minute or two to load as so many people are sharing their great work, but if it still isn't loading after that then it might be the browser you are using. Try using a different browser (for example, safari or google chrome) and see if that fixes the problem. Hope that helps!

  • @PriyankaS Its on the way and should be uploaded soon. For now, if you look above the comments, we have a PDF transcript you can download as well. I hope that helps :)

  • @SulemanAlhajiZakaria You are correct, there was an error and it has now been fixed. Good job spotting it.

  • James Todd replied to [Learner left FutureLearn]

@JaideepPal You are correct, there was a mistake and it has now been corrected. Good job spotting it.

  • Hi Daniel, I'm glad to hear you figured out the histogram. A lot of learning is persistence, and you clearly showed it. Keep up the good work!
