  • Hi everyone,

My name is Thobelani. I am based in South Africa. I work as a Security Manager in one of the biggest companies in Southern Africa.

I joined this course because I want to better my communication and interpersonal skills. The role I position I currently occupy has me attending lots of meetings and write many reports. I believe that the...

  • @FredKwarteng Hi Fred.
I am happy we have made it far.
Knowledge gained here will go a long way in our careers and perhaps our own enterprises.
I'm based in South Africa and wish know and keep you beyond this course.

  • I am so happy I have made it this far.
I am loving each and every moment of this course.
@Valeria's feedbacks make me engaged and important.
I can safely say that futurelearn is doing exactly what the content says in so far as employees being part-time marketers of the service.

I have been taken screenshot of some articles in this course and sharing...

  • This speaks to me. This is the content I really needed as I am about to venture into business.

  • I can think of situations where employers resign in just less than a month in their roles.
I knew immediately that they were sold a dream during recruitment processes.
Surely, salary was not any for all three employees that left, but process, reporting and communication structures and so forth.

  • The organization I currently work for is passionate about alignment of people to the strategic plan of the organization.
Quarterly, we have briefing sessions on site, and we also off site conferences where we talk about issues facing the firm and develop way out of those isues together with senior management team.
I find this really helpful in that it...

  • ROR was my highlight for this week. It's funny how people doing business tend to undermine the power that consumers have.
Time to time I have glitches with people on the floor at shops, part time marketers.
This makes me wonder if actual marketing personnel do alignment with part-time marketers

  • Writing my own blog was so helpful

  • @EvansBoatengOwusu I think inside-out concept means that managers tend to focus on things things like the cost of producing the product, the quality as perceived by them and not as perceived by the customer, labour and other resources.

An outside-in approach would mean that managers are more proactive in terms of aligning themselves with customers needs,...

  • This is interesting, it now tells me that managers of our services providers should keep up to speed with changes and developments in our company rather than us challenging them to keep up.

  • I am comparing this to my actual work scenario, interesting

  • The criteria is gonna be kept in my office posted

  • It's been an exciting week. As a security service provider, I learnt a lot.

  • Looking forward to week two

  • Where I live there two bars facing each other. I would say they have similar standards, however I go to one simple because of how they interact with me. I feel like they relate to me so well compared to the other that I feel like they dont value my input to their existence.

  • I take the view that customers create value, you may come up with a product but if customers dont see value or the product doesnt talk to them theres no value in the product

  • I fully agree with this sentiment. Any business is a service provider to someone or other organization. The two co-exist in that one is dependent on the other.
A business should always seek way to better ways in which they can be of greater help to their customers.
They should go deep and try to understand what is really happening in their customers and...

  • I have not owned a computer in my entire life. However, my experience with social networks, music download websites and adult content websites is that there is a lot of this happening there.
I notice that when I want to click on download, all of sudden, the download click moves and I end up clicking on something redirecting me to something else.
    On social...

Autorun worms are malicious programs that take advantage of the
Windows AutoRun feature. They execute automatically when the device
on which they are stored is plugged into a computer

  • My password as rated low before typing in digits and symbols.

  • I use a minimum of 5 letters, symbol and digits.
My passwords are not all the same

  • All what i can say at this stage is that I find that I am one most vulnerable person to online banking scammers.
I want to ensure that I remove all passwords so that my google remmebers no pass word put to it.

  • I'll follow trusted cyber journalist and blogs on socials

  • Target Attack

target attack is the one scenario that relates much to area of work. We outsource most of the work that we do, we allow access to some contractors to email for purposes of work and communication. We try to enforce CIA by making sure that vendors complete and sign nondisclosure and secrecy forms which will surely cover confidentiality, but I do...

  • Wow!! This is getting interesting even more.

  • I am happy, the feedback from email check is that I am not pawned. I must say that my lack of interest in online adverts must have played a big role.
I make sure that I visit trustable websites.
One of my old password has been pawned

  • So for me to pay for me this course I added bank card details. I am worried.

  • Managers can encourage ethical behaviours by being reflective of organisational values and codes. There is a need, especially in RSA, for managers not to see themselves above the teams they lead.

  • Sustainability refers to mainly to an approach that seeks to balance three aspects economy, planet and society.

  • I must say that I work for one of the best organizations in the world. The effort leadership put to ensure that employees are happy and contented is immeasurable.
Two times volunteer programmes are a great sign of CSR and an opportunity for team building.

  • Looking forward

  • One most standout unethical issue in South Africa that I can think of is that of the Gupta family.
Here, this family was involved in influencing ministerial appointments. It is alleged that they owned many business entities in various industries including mining and media.
They were also involved in registering companies that would be most preferred for...

  • In this instant there is a possibility/doubt by a civilian that businesses in the pharmaceutical and health industry could be used to endorse "Covid19 vaccine" to achieve agendas of certain individuals.

Luzuko, where are you based in RSA?

  • It is quite clear that Lee needs help. Their issue if not taken seriously and therefore not addressed could result to her making bad decisions whether in the workplace or life general.
Purpose and best interest of the individual are most aspects to consider for in this instance. Sometimes people drown thinking they would salvage themselves or it's better if...

  • Quite interesting facts shared in the video. Really, sometimes, I realize that I do not always consider whether a decision is ethical or not, it just happens.

  • Ethics essentially refer to set of acceptable norms and rules that do not necessarily have to be in legislative writings. These rules naturally develop long periods of time.

  • Hi all,

  • I have enjoyed my journey. The course kept me coming back to learn new stuff. I love the comment box part of the course as it allowed me to think hard on future, present and previous experiences.
I realize that I had wrong ideas about performance, this programme has prepared me well for my appraisal appointment in february.

  • I left two organization before joining the one I with currently. Reasons were similar, I wanted an opportunity to work in a senior role. I think it is going to be the case even with my current employer.

  • unfortunately most adverts I come across in my country contain these red flags

  • When new questions arise and seem to try and trick the candidate. A very important statement is made above, that the interview doesn't intend catch out candidates.
A BP has to intervene by making sure that a standard and fair system of recruitment is applied to candidates

  • I think I relate with these biases. At some point in my career I was responsible for screening candidates for employment without proper training.

  • I do have a job description. To be honest, before apply for my currently role I was terrified by contents in that jo description. Line managers do have depth knowledge of the role to be filled, but the help on HR is very important. when managers look for people may forget crucial things to look for like succession planning as you recruit for current vacancy.

  • All these steps were touched during my recruitment.

  • Yes, I do think mi too was strategic. I think this should be the approach for all vacancies.

  • I look forward

  • I was recruited through agency. The lady interviewed me at a local coffee shop. She was happy and submitted my resume to the company's recruiting team where I was interviewed two times. First panel was made up of departmental management and business partner. The second was director, head of department and BP.
the experience was good, the interview came long...

I am going to take major steps in my career development to try and fit my skills to succession of my manager.

  • Great insight in how HR gets to do things. However I still feel like there is a long way to go before workplaces meet standards.

  • Where do you see yourself and your own career in the next year or two?

I currently work for a well rewarding organization and I think I need to stay in this role for at least the next 2 years. The organization observes and complies well with legislative requirements. In this two years I plan to develop myself in wild range of skills.
I have a very good and...

  • I am going to share this with my manager. I told him about this and I wish to shake things up in the department through knowledge gained from this programme.

I have had many times and I have received positive feedbacks. Luckily sooner after I joined the company I enrolled for a management programme which contributed greatly to my leadership skills

  • I find helpful information in this interview. Generally, I think managers struggle with setting SMART objectives, I have noticed that most of the times they tend to impose these objectives on employees without properly explaining them.
sometimes you may find that they are way out of employee scope of operations, leading to impacted employ not to even attempt...

  • The organization I work for has done so well in terms attempting limit covid-19 cases.
Senior leadership works from home and time time visit site. Certain departments work from home.

  • Good work balances the need for employees to be part of the society live, fairly, participate in activities like kids schools sports day and kids schools meetings.
Good work should contribute less to stress levels. I believe in flexibility in terms of working hours, I think right now organizations cage people for hours monitoring their movements in the...

  • 5 years ago I worked for a company that I still think do very well in terms of employee retention. I have friends who worked there before and are still there. The culture there is that join, let's help you develop yourself, and line managers are skilled to look after employees well.

  • I am finding contents of the course very interesting and relating to what I experience in the workplace.
I didn't know much about HR before enrollment.

  • Scenario one is a perfect example of unfair labour practice.
Scenario two is perfect example of good purposesful data collection.

  • I hardly considered this, but now realize the need to keep good profile.
I now understand why some people won't get roles that an ordinary may think they should get.
This maybe due to things like poor credit record, lifestyle outside work, views you post on social media/blogs that are against what the role demands.

  • I am starting to realize that what we share on social media may in way influence decisions of not only our current employers, but potential employers too.
I was surprised when a recruiting agent told me that they followed my Linkedin profile.

  • Quite an interesting journey.

  • Very insightful views there. I certainly enjoyed and learnt quite a lot from this audio conversation.

Like Giles indicates, developing trust is vital in these circumstances. But I am also concerned about learners coming from campus based schools trying to find their way into corporate space.

I wonder if current education systems do cater for this...

  • I am looking forward.

  • I am truly excited. I finished week one and the experience so far has been good. All scenarios are so realistic and reflective of workplace reality.

I am motivated by fellow students submissions, too.

  • Response number is absolutely correct. These kinds of complaints should never take longer to be attended as they may serious and severe consequences.

  • Hi Danielle. Interesting input there. I hope through this programme we are going to get the basic understanding that we require and end up experts in field.

  • In my previous discussions, I submitted that HR plays a significant role in harmonizing the relationships between the employer and the employee, organization and stakeholders, clients and possible clients(general society).

Once HR department forgets the importance of this role and the severity of consequences this may have on the organization i.e feeling of...
