  • I am so excited to learn more about this topic..

  • Do i get certificate for completing this course?

  • I recently started to write my opinions and close the comments in social media or publish articles.
People in social media mostly are subjective and bias. And they can damage you with their harshness.
So sometime i need to publish and not get in any discussions. I only discuss with people who want to know different opinion than theirs and they open to all...

  • Yes we must analyze everything
but unfortunately some societies and religions dont allow their individuals to do saw. Myself i been sent to court becauas someone say i should discuss or analyze a specific topic related to religion and religious people

  • Even professional intellectuals can apply all steps but many fail to provide a feedback option. Although it is extremely important element

  • I didnt understand this sentence : These should be based on your desired outcome."
Is wanting a desired outcome and shape our testing method to achieve this goal, can bring unbias and objective outcome?!

  • Its useful information certainly, but do we need to apply all sub steps that are included in each main steps?

  • There are steps for every process and sub steps.. I found some difficult to remember them but i think i use them without knowing which sub related to other. I hope to be more able to be awareness when i used them

  • Some steps are similar especially be specific and motivation

  • I find it hard sometimes to work with teams. Since all my last experience working with teams most of them are inflexible everyone want to apply his strategy. Ane maybe I do fall in the same mistake aa well.
I tend to ask many questions to produce something unique and new. This need of course extra work. In this case i find people way of thinking is strongly...

  • Inflexible thinker : ahmed
    Reactive Thinker: kris
    Unconscious Thinker: paul
Critical, Conscious and Creative Thinker: joel

Its a bit tricky. I am sure abouf joel. But its a bit difficult yo find out the others

  • Helpful example

  • I tried to apply most critical thinking but in some arab countries its difficult. People are more reactive, unaware thinkers and inflexible. So i face hard time and i lost many things because they think i am away from the herd. Your reputation can be destroied. I wish to learn how we can confront people with our thought without fear and without losing your...

  • I wonder if empathy can effect our judgment and be bias without realizing

  • Number 3 is quite not clear for me i think example on how we apply them will be useful..

  • I think this website is useful

    https://www.thoughtco.com/

  • With many dark opinions around us giving on dark and also the great usage of stereotype and sometimes being unable to communicate with vast majority of people. I am sure critical thinking will be as a strong protection and it will give us more confidence. Because many people might change their mind because of the majority point of view even it wasn't based on...

  • This is really helpful terms and it dose make sense but unfortunately many people don't know how to apply them in their everyday life. I am ready to know how by your guidance in this course.
    Thank you

  • I am really interested to know skills to develop my critical thinking skills. Unfortunately we didnt have it in our schools so i want to learn this skill and mybe continue my studies to be able to teach it to people around me

  • i think it is important to look for an idea to avoid the dominant way of addressing poeple by pronouns usually refers to males, because its already programed the user to accept it and females not longer even question it and this make them always feel there are like outsiders and their contribution is an exception from the dominant.
i wish if we can create...

  • I am happy that our instructor also realise or maybe knew this week was a bit overloaded with information. On the other hand , a very bit of information is valuable and I think we will be able to recall them in future

  • Loads of information but I am sure this will be a very helpful material for me, because I wish to be able to continue study about it.

My opinion about what I read and how modern thinkers tries hard to disclose our safe mind which is looked and pressed hard most of the time. And how the mind nature and its mystery has also a special and different way of...

  • Same here , I felt like I was in a dark room and happy to see a ray of light from the curtain until I came here and the curtain was open. It is amazing how human beings searched from a very long time of away to ease the load from the mind and how old and new work are similar and agree in many points

  • I totally agree with you and I wish to know how they justify performing tasks

  • Questioning the mind as a master of all seems to be a very old thing. Most of people think there is something else work with our mind . It cannot be our minds only that can move us. Therefore, I think stoicism shift it focus upon heart and the role it plays in our behaviour.
Rationality is very important and it overcome what ancient techniques ignore. It is...

  • It is very interesting view. Daosim try to look Objectively to human being as a combination of ( good and bad ) forces . This look made this school of teaching to concentrate to protect human ( both their minds and bodies ). Marshal art can be used to with ethical standers and morals to help and promote good in world and protect ourselves from harm.

  • I totally agree with you Eva. And since we now able to compare all those schools and combine them with scientific facts we can build the ultimate vehicle

  • fatma Nasser alwahaibi made a comment
    Zen

No matter how various techniques there are , all of them share the aim to get oneself look deeper into his mind and soul and have a moment in peace with his own !. This seems easy , but in fact it’s not . Our life and our mind are designed to interrupt peaceful of mind. We are now trapped by work , family reposibilities and many other obligations. People whom...

  • Thank you for sharing some new information for me . I will definitely will look up French Cathar , I haven’t heard about it before .

  • It’s is getting more complicated and things start to mixed up for me. However , I might say that that concentrating about little things in life, daily actions and our own human regular behaviour that we didn’t have time to even think about it , it makes me appreciate the little things around me. In my opinion it is important to have a mixture of both (...

  • i think although all religions have sects that practice its own version of mindfulness , it is not always leads to fulfill the same purpose. some mindfulness practice its aim to melt ourselves to be close to GOD and be away from our earthy lives.
i think mindfulness is not only related to Buddhism but its more celebrated in it . unlike , Islam which...

  • @HelenH i agree . i tried to find peace by being using my mind in everything but that just make my anxiety worse

  • thank you for sharing this beautiful quote

  • this is the case with me as well. i always have doubts about the effectiveness of mindfulness since its most of the time is bonds with mystics practices and specific religion. i joined this course to know how it is been studied by scientists.

  • I totally agree but as in fields such as : self help and people who are doing this kind of lecturing, some of them learned in certified organisations and others holds some fakes courses, and many people fall into their web and they spend a lot of money and were used by someone who tries to sell them dreams and hopes and get advantage of their mesiry. I think...

  • I think majority of religious people don't have a scientific background and we know that, but many of the popular yoges today are mixing words of religion with words of science and numbers. Therefore, those are more popular among people than other. Using terms , however, completely different than saying words you understand and study well. Therefore , it is...

  • I totally agree that we need a continuous dialogue about mindfulness that late byound the 8 weeks course. The idea of an app is really nice. I hope when I finish this course to pass my knowledge to other and be able to continue studies about mindfulness until being able to share with others this valuable practices

  • I think the most influential teachers today the mixed both the charming of the spiritual side and the scientific theories and practice

  • @NgaManChan you are right but unfortunately religious men on the other hand unlike scientists talking in deductive arguments

  • many poeple use deductive argument even if they are not sure at all . they get advantage from lazy or ignorant people who will not bother to look for reference's or read to make sure of what they are receiving from their teachers

  • interesting! i always wonders how religious arguments can be strong although it might based on nothing solid !

  • i learned a lot from the past two weeks and looking forward to learn more .

  • @MyahBahlooChambers i agree with in some parts, but I really want to know what facts dose she provide in her letter? I was unable to find any and I would like to know another opinion than mine.

    Thanks

  • I don't think this article had an argument. When I read it, I felt it is driven by anger and doesn't states specifically how Auckland Council failed in its duty to represent the public and protect our natural heritage.
P1 :First the letter talked about a secret meeting, which will make the whole letter less credibility as if it was driven by conspiracy...

  • Peopl usually expect arguments from the authorities , and most of people movements have good arguments but the loud voice is usually express anger and emotions of refusal.

However, this whole example for me as a middle Eastern citizen is wonderful and healthy because we don't have such a thing of community stand against the will of the authorities or...

  • In my point of view, i dont think Buddha intention to be a scientist or a reformer. I think he left everything to live a personal experience. His abandonment for everything valuable he got and his fortunate life was inspiring for many people until today

  • I totally agree. Sometimes when i feel better i think i dont need meditation or medication and after awhile i collapse. Denial and the feeling of hopelessness will not help you. I learn from my therapist the techniques to use it . Some techniques to be practiced daily and others to be practiced in emergency situations like moments of panic attacks

  • I prefer short practice because i am now in therapy to overcome trauma issues from childhood . Thanks you for mentioning that. Even with session with my dr i sometimes breakdown and later on i have panic attacks and nightmares

  • The example about wheelchair ramps in stakeholders section grabbed my attention . How to be able to find an idea that help people who been forgotten and at the same time this idea be useful to everyone. I am excited about this part a lot

  • I find it difficult to spot especially in the song example I thought both sentences have arguments . Waiting for more examples and practice .. thanks

  • Totally agree . That’s why i try to say things in details just to avoid this misunderstanding

  • It is very tricky to figure out what exactly is missing but by practice i think i will be able to point out hidden speech .

  • How could a elderly people feel less lonely?
How teenagers Get involved in politics?

How programmers build Build inclusive technologies?

How women get educated about the deep meaning about feminism?

How teenagers boys realise feminism is not girls only ?

  • Exactly these 2 factors are very important safe and comferble. Thanks for reminding us about these 2 important factors

  • Nice place to be surrounded by water is wonderful. I prefer to lay down in beach near the see or just floating over water or sitting in the middle of a room on floor while its is raining

  • For me It resembles 3 step breathing space where you focus about other things around you doing it's thing in life. That you are not alone even if you think you are

  • This particular practice of breathing has teached me to not fight every thought pass by just let it go

  • The same for me

  • For me i found short meditation like : 3 steps breaching , 3 step breathing space and mindful walking are the most useful meditation for me , they don't need special time and you can make it anywhere once you remember them and want to do them. The other meditation for sounds and thoughts it is good but for me I can't practice this meditation I day time . I...

  • I wish to know how to maintain calm if someone didn’t discuss my arguments, instead he try to direct his opposition.

  • Excited to reveal how to use and deal with different statements

  • It seems that you are really busy, but I feel itself ears .

Although, the article was long I found. Thank you

  • There are many examples , I just have some difficulty to link them with right names of fallacies.

    For example:
There are corruption almost everywhere and people might blame any minister, but you might hear ( he is a theif just look at his belly

The Ad Hominem or ‘At the Person’ Fallacy.

  • I feel confused by all those terms. I did know 1 or 2 before ,but most of them are new to me

  • I really like this portable meditation practices. I find it most practical and helpful. Thank you very much

  • For me this is can be done indoors only. I wish if any instructors will advice about when you walk and feel been watched by everyone and you be so stressed and try to get things done.. When I go for walking I can't enjoy my walk because of this feeling.

  • I think this is really practical exercise, because long practices are not easy to do regularly.

  • For me I do this meditation often and now I don't feel I need an audio. It was difficult at the beginning but now I feel I am capable to it. I was fighting any idea passing my mind and when I do that I start blaming myself and I feel awful. Then my Dr said to me if I told you don't think of the elephant, immediately you will think about it.
    So ideas like...

  • Did you learn how to use and choose proper words ? Or you are naturally gifted. I wish if you could share any books or courses that help you in doing so ..

    Thanks for sharing

  • Exactly

  • Again like many people I actually don't recognise such word playing in questioners and different kind of forms.

  • I always relate speed with doing much things in short period of time. This article is an eye-opening for me. In my country and u guess in many other Arabic or Eastern countries many people believe that being tuff and use beating to discipline kids is the best way to rise good kids ! I don't know if this example fits here

  • I find it very useful in nap time and before sleep . I only find some difficulty in reminding myself to meditat during the day be spairing 10 or 5 minutes twice a day at least

  • The i was about to sleep the voice so relaxing and focusing on voices and trying to know more about these focuse I feel so relaxed and about to sleep. I don't this I can make this practice and be able to do anything after that. I don't know if this practice is meant to be used during our day or just at night or trying to get rest ?

  • @JanMole it is rally frustrating feeling especially when It repeated itself most of the time

  • My mind wanders most of the time I just start to be able to relize it more while practicing mindfulness. Usually i forget to what about to say in the middle of my talking , or even when I remove my ring to put cream I realise I forget to wear the ring back even if I remind myself to not forget the ring again , this didn't happen to me this often but recently I...

  • Most of People are lazy to search and read academic papers or relayble information and they like spoon feeding. Therefore, their mind easily catches misleading information whether by fack science or by people belive in conspiracy theory is the cause of almost everything. I also belive that trusted I information should be more humble to interact with people....

  • @HenryEfe I think this course might change your mind

  • For me it's new to watch an IT related person talk about emotions and sympathy! There is this stereotype idea that people work in software programming and other similar fields are almost like their computers ( robots like humans) they use less emotions in their conversations. However, this is a stereotype images. In this video I was happy to first see a male...

  • For me I think design and representation along with conversation design are both very challenging and critical for the success of any AL program

  • Exactly

  • It wasn't easy to learn all those things related to mindfulness and also for me to have this course in difficult times. I was sharing my daily experiences related to mindfulness and my current emotional and mental state that I try to calm by practicing some mindfulness methods.
I am excited to know more

  • @MartineGroenevelt thanks for sharing

  • Sometimes I do it unconsciously, like if I am support a particular point of view so I read more about that by authors also support it. And I feel that other views are not based by scientific evidence so I don't bother to know more about it. I will be more aware now and I will try to read more about different point of views

  • I am familiar with terms like framing and common fallacies but I know nothing about conformation bias and heuristic.
Excited to know new things and to know the terms I am familiar with in depth

  • Hi I am Fatma from Oman. I am I am a translator and holder of postgraduate diploma in New media governance and democracy. I also continuesly participate in debates about the role of religion in our lives and also in support freedom of speech that is not fully granted in our society. • Hi I am Fatma from Oman. I am so happy to finally find a course about critical thinking I always been interested in this topic.
I need to understand it not by just reading about it but I want to learn from academics work in this field of thinking. I joined debates in social media and I since I am from an Arab Muslim country any opinion different from the...

  • @JessicaWall keep it up Jessica. We all here to support each other

  • I scored 0
    What dose this mean ?

  • Unfortunately I am. I am in difficult situation right now and i took this course beside my regular therapy with my Dr. And I am stressed not only I feel I am stressed but my body gives me singles some of them I didn't know before. When I am stressed my legs are moving and shaking in repeatable way ( I am used to this) , lately when I sleep my hand or my legs...

  • @KateM well said!

  • I think there are a number of interesting points in this text. First of all, is how to make AL sensitive to insulting conversations towards females? It is not an easy job and if we succeed in making it detect such offensive language, what will be the best reply for this offender? Is the AL machine will lecture him about this harm behavior or she is join to...

  • Conversation design is so important and crucial and I think it not easily to apply in all languages. Some languages are more flexible and others not so I think there is a linguistic challenge as well. On the other hand, if a man is the one creating the conversation design it will be biased even unconsciously. Therefore, it is important not only have a women in...

  • A very good point dear Kate

  • Totally agree with you

  • For me I used to pass by internet language without paying attention for the biased terms. Now I am more alert and I can notice any favoritism.
