  • Thank you for adding this link Russell as I to have COPD and chronic asthma I find it hard to breath I have once again just come out of the hospital! I have spent 3 weeks out of 4 this month in there... I can't seem to find any help or advice about my conditions... its very frustrating. Thanks again.

Hello everyone, I hope you all learn qnd get what you want out of this course. I signed up for this course months ago. I am afraid I'm laid in a hospital bed at the moment with COPD emphysema and other CRDs. So I'd like to know how far science or any other possibilities for these diseases have advanced. I'd also like to learn more about my own health.
    Good...

  • My motivation for doing this course is that I need to keep improving my mind and by doing mindfulness helps me so much to do this.

  • These really do work and take such a short amount of time to learn.

  • I really enjoy learning about mindfulness and actually doing it. Just emptying my mind.

  • Hello I'm Helen I have already written a statement why I'm doing this course. I have no idea why it's not shown up...

  • Thank you for sharing this information with us. Looking forward to this course.

  • Hello everyone, as asked from above the 3 things I will tell you about myself are that I suffer from many mental health problems Due to Severe PTSD. The second is I am also in heart failure which is awful. I also have muscle pain and COPD and emphysema. I have done many short courses in mental health but never one like this. I am looking forward to seeing...

Brian Cox! I just love his work and his documentaries! I found this really interesting! When we take into consideration the sun too it all starts to make sense about the different gravitational pulls also taking the land and other factors into consideration....

  • Great demonstration I found that going back and re reading it a couple of times its started to sink in a lot more. A lot easier visual than verbal but i do get the ice skating easier.

  • I have learnt that there is so little known about our oceans after studying them for all these years. I know I am more excited now I know this information than I have been for many years! As if I wasn't already obsessed for years about the oceans now I am now just thirsty to learn for years to come more and more!!!

  • Yes I agree about the rain forests also greed and mass urbanisation of the world that is also a direct way to destroying the earth as well. Causing severe global warming. Causing tsunamis and fires burning to the point where there will be/or already causing species of land animals becoming extinct... I think this topic is a massive global tradgey. I am doing...

  • Many more hundreds or thousand's of years before we even scratch the surface of the ocean..... I also believe that there are many cures in our ocean for the terrible diseases that are in todays society. Just my personal opinion but will it be to late at the rate we are destroying our oceans....

  • I am just gutted this course is for a short amount of weeks as i would love the time to read all this information downloaded then have a few more weeks of personal discussions..... amazing

  • An absolutely fascination of the ocean all that time ago there are obviously many made up stories about the sizes by fishermen's tales but then again evolution hmmmm.....

  • I have created my Padlet there are so many to choose from! I could go on all evening!!

  • I am really looking forward to studying this course because i am fascinated about anything to do with the Ocean i have just read about the timescale of these studies and it has completely shocked me that its only into the 19th and 20th century that its taken so long to realise that these studies have come to surface!

  • Like i have just said in my previous comment that i think there is way to much packed into this course for just 3 weeks..... LIKE i said last comment i will have to do this course again to read all there is to know just about a fraction of this type of scientific evidence! WAY to much to take in for a short course MENTALLY PHYSICALLY THEN LEARING ABOUT FROM...

  • I have enrolled on the next course for this as i dont think that there is enough time to read all the extensions that are so vital for people to know in just 3 weeks!!!

  • @WaiChow I totally agree with your reply. The government are quick to shout about it but they don't put money into helping people to make even small changes :)

  • i have saved so many pages also information that is absolutely new to me! I wish this science would have been around 20 years ago!!

  • I know these studies have probably been going on for years and years but i wish i had known about all these things and the reactions to what helps and what doesnt many years ago my GPS that i have been under and the new professor in psychology who i am seeing now would have informed introduced me to a nutritionist years ago!! It almost makes me angry that the...

  • I found this very interesting to the point where i almost signed up for the participation in their work. That's because i would be a brilliant candidate for the university. I have severe bloating i am also in heart failure and other cardiovascular problems as well as problem with IBS also other medical conditions. I have always been fascinated by the way...

  • The Australians seem to be a lot more advanced in these subjects than any studies i have yet to see in England. The one thing that really sticks out to me is that once again if you have the money to go into private healthcare then you will get a lot better outcome.........

  • I wrote about "Fad" diets in week 1 they are dangerous and dont work

  • I am really looking forward to the Gut-Brain axis i am fascinated about how this works.

  • I have enjoyed week 1 especially some of the links!!! I got caught up in lot of them and have learnt a lot more about myself and how far back in our lives mental health can become impacted within us. The nutritional information gives another good prospective towards our mental health to.

  • This is a difficult question because for as long as i can remember. But i do agree with the intake of good foods does lift my mood.

  • I am afraid im on the other side of the spectrum at the moment as i would love nothing more than to eat fresh food daily but with my disabilities and no outside help i am only able to eat as and when i can. I do have a good neighbour that brings me a meal over now and again. Its awful for me because i know that healthy eating does wonders for my mental health....

  • Wow this is a really huge question to answer simply.... There are lots of factors on food and how we eat a lot mentioned above, also the links are very interesting and true as far as people been dragged into the "Diet fads!" But the main thing when we are discussing food the healthy and the unhealthy option a lot of the time does/is a major factor when it...

  • I expected the results to be around that percentage or more. I think that fast foods are so easy and convenient for a lot of people. I myself try when I can to eat healthy but find it hard because I'm disabled and can't cook for myself so a lot of my meals are unfortunately microwave meals I try to get meals with veg in though....

  • I am glad I read your comment because I suffer from clinical depression and anxiety disorder as well as panic attacks and PTSD. As well as lots of physical problems...... Lots. I read some of the above but had to come off as it was to much for me... I think honesty is the best way.

  • It's a form of discrimination. Personally I think this comment should be seen by one of the course mentors and either rectified or removed. These courses do not cover any form of discrimination. They are for friendly welcoming people whom just want to learn. Or get a better understanding of their own needs or work experience for them as professionals who want...

  • I most certainly agree that social factors are so difficult to overcome there needs to be so much more support in all areas of mental health and i also agree that this should not be forced upon infants but made aware of. From reading some of studies and work thats gone into these studies children infants are aware of their social surroundings. I know myself...

  • I agree with most of the comments below about the modification of all of the above factors. From been in the womb to growing up in todays society and the environmental issues.

  • I am shocked that an earlier comment said that "middle aged people" are the ones that suffer from mental health issues!
I dont think that the WHO have a very good understanding of mental health and/or nutrition the WHO should be looking into mental health a lot more in my personal opinion......

  • I disagree with the age definition is related.... I personally think you should read a lot more into Mental Health.

  • This might seem a shallow answer because i don't want to go really deep into this as a sufferer for both mental and physical health we are what we eat and if we don't put the right foods into our bodies then its difficult to benefit from the experiences what we get out.

  • I find it comes down to the old saying "You are what you eat!" This is so true I have done it myself eaten really well for 5 days and noticed the difference in my mood. Its just so difficult as I have very limited mobility and it is so annoying. Also my mental health is suffering from not just this but other factors... I class myself as living proof of this......

  • Hello everyone, I suffer from many different health conditions. I also suffer from mental health illnesses. The reason I am doing this course is learn a lot more about how chemicals in food can/could have an impact on my own health and I'm generally fascinated about this subject. I don't I looked at the pinned maps. Maybe interesting to get others perspectives...

  • I would recommend another course on here it's called something like living with back pain and CBT that's a course I have done and it is very good. Loads of worksheets to download. I found this video very interesting I didn't know that CBT was founded in the 1960's! I thought it was a lot more recent than that.

  • I found that worksheet 1 made me feel quite uncomfortable it's not so much the words I remember it's the actual events.

  • I was drawn more towards the negative side of both worksheets. But I do suffer from depression and anxiety quite badly.

  • I did this exercise and I suffer from severe anxiety and depression my automatic response was to look at the angry face so this research can be proved correct. (with me anyway)

  • Interesting way of looking at depression. A very good task to take.

  • Like I have said previously that I find that our sensory organs are not just down to the "5" there is a tremendous amount of other things that are missing....

  • Remember the bees and what they see and remember. I also remember the music with the child's picture and the final one.

  • "Making sense of the world" I have always thought when I say this I use it in its hard to make sense of the world. (especially now for many of us with this awful covid virus!) But the answer to the question is my dream was quite strange chasing someone whom I though had a hold over me until a wise friend told me that this person wasn't nice and I would never...

  • It would be nice to have a PDF copy of this page....

  • Wow there are a lot more than I thought of myself yet I described pain in my last post. I'm fascinated that these are all senses but still we are made to belive that there are 5....

  • @FuschiaPink That sounds like heaven Daisy you have written at the end simular to how I feel.

  • I am sat in my living room with the blowing of the ocalting fan on my face. I can hear that also the TV playing low in the background. I am now stroking my cat whom feels really soft and makes me feel better. I can still feel the pain in my back but using these senses and breaking them down almost feel like a short form of meditation. (taking my mind off my...

  • @GeoffreyHarrison one very good read is The Human Zoo by Desmond Morris.

  • @GeoffreyHarrison Thank you for your reply. I have just been doing some mindfulness. Also I am getting there slowly with my breathing. Thank you again.

  • Wow I can understand every single one of these situations. I suffer from chronic anxiety and depression and severe pain as well. I'm really looking forward to learning much more now as these are me!!

  • I have just started CBT as I am suffering from PTSD. I am on my 3rd session. Up to now I haven't really been able to get to grips with it. (maybe the fact I have waited 18 months for any help?)

  • Helen Askew made a comment

I am looking forward to learning from this course as it focuses on the actual CBT and how they are breaking it down so I understand about Cognitive then the Behavioural finishing with the therapy that's used.

  • I have started already to look at behaviours through new eyes! This course has taught me so much! I have really enjoyed it. Thank you to the course coordinators. Excellent science and can't wait to learn more about this.

Extremely accurate all of this we do need extra help in schools from a young age!

  • In a few of the schools i know they do have specialist members of staff that do help students with extra curriculum activities but as far as dealing with disruptive behaviour they are taken out of a mainstream school to "learning centres" which never deals with the child's problems it just sweeps them under the carpet!!!

  • This is more or less what I wrote in the comments box 2 questions back. This behaviour is out of control not because the child wants to react this way, it's because the child can't act or control themselves in any other way because of the way their brain works. It's a chemical imbalance too.

  • I agree with your comment.

  • Giving the student time to calm down as well as talking in a kinder understanding voice. Asking if they could try and take some deep breaths so more oxygen can return to the brain.

  • Helen Askew made a comment

There should be professionals brought into all schools with the Understanding all of the children whom have been through any form of trauma the only way to do this job is to have extra staff who are trained to help and have this information and knowledge of the brain like this course is teaching.

  • Glad you brought this up Trisha I think a lot of people are not involving this kind of conversation into the course. (It does go on) every second of everyday.

  • Helen Askew made a comment

Another brilliant piece of information!!! I really didn't know how far technology and studies had become in this field!! I am very impressed this has to used in the medical profession to diagnose or even pick up on faults in the brain! Could we actually be nearer to the NATURE VS NURTURE answer with this type of research!!!

  • Extremely great break down of how the brain works and what parts of the brain function with different types of emotions. I found the part about the limbic system been affected from early years fascinating i didn't know this.

  • The trauma aware effect sounds a lot better for some people I think it's an excellent way of just focusing on the trauma instead of everything around it. This helps us by knowing which behaviour/s to look for

  • In realist terms then the secure and resistant but it doesn't always work that way. The avoidment and disorganised ways say that the baby doesn't have the attachment to their parent/s therefore is more prone as growing up to have attachment/trust/self esteem problems. There is a lot you can take from these videos and also the written content.

  • Not all children have an "loving compassionate and empathetic" life also not all parents have this bond and are able to connect with their children/babies from birth. A lot of parents may suffer from "Postnatal depression" also other forms of anxiety and not be able to offer their children a natural motherly form of empathy. I think the mirroring and other...

  • I'm not sure where to find these statistics without having some form of authorisation. But I think it will be higher than Australia. (Just going on what I know personally in England)

  • Really true

  • Wow I expected a lot bigger percentage for confident in my knowledge and experience. Great to hear that a lot more are like myself the keen to know more....

  • Hello everyone!! have joined this course for more academical knowledge about this area i really enjoy learning about any form of psychology but I do have an interest in child psychology. Also I have been through such an awful tragic event in my own life.

  • I would like to thank everyone that has put together this course as I have really enjoyed it and I'm going to really miss this course! I have written more in the next step.....

  • So true Liz!

  • Thank you for sharing these analogies I think they are great and so true!

  • @DrSherelleConnaughton I have found that with the dropping off to sleep... I just go with the flow and allow my mind to just enjoy the experience.

  • @LizBrnjak very interesting way of really slowing down and looking at food differently. Great!

  • I find chewing and actually tasting my food is a good experience because I know as I have got older my tastes have changed a lot! I know that this is to do with actually savouring the taste instead of just rushing it and swallowing!

  • There are some really great quotes in this. I don't fear or sit and think about a dark side of dying. I agree so much about mindfulness skills been able to help others with this. But I don't fear this i simply think it of passing over. With love light warmth and no more suffering. (Just my point of view peeps)

  • I'm loving the new word "Beditation!) That makes so much sense and helps to put a bubble around a lot of different experiences to do with this subject. I almost fell asleep reading this as I could feel the stresses of the day melting away! I am also surprised to learn about waves of dreams come every 75 to 90 minutes. Very interesting to learn this. I am...

  • @FionaH I am hehe :)

  • The " Six Principles of acceptance and Commitment Therany" are also a very good read. I could go on forever with this course. But I have been in the value vs verses a lot more times than I thought after learning how to separate the 2 mentally which can be difficult. But effective.

  • I am really going to miss this course when I have finished it. Everyone has been extremely kind, helpful, friendly also very trusting. Liz and sherelle have been fantastic mentors as well as Craig and Richard. Brilliant course!!! THANK YOU :)

  • Wow you sound very much like myself and thank you for explaining your lifestyle growing up in this world today.

  • I couldn't agree more Lizard this one about ethics has confused me quite a bit. I know we have longer to finish this course this is why I am guessing. Thank you.

  • Great for you to mention that Sally as I try different ones too. Not 1 size fits all...

  • Thank you Sherelle for your concern. I need a padded home I'm so clumsy. :)

  • I really enjoyed this meditation, I read the text below first and found that the light all around me helped my visualise a lot better. I can't wait to keep using this one as I have found it very helpful but I am in agony at the moment! After a nasty slip in the bath....

  • Really great finish from Craig and Richard for this week! Including the tragic fires in Australia and this awful covid 19 into the discussion is something to reflect on. Hopefully soon for us all to look back on!! When we can go out and return to some kind of normality! Also talking about how hard some of the course has been this week for quite a lot of people...

  • Thank you sherelle for the links to the course on you tube excellent!!!

  • I have really enjoyed this week. Not just the learning and the extra information provided in the boxes at the bottom of the screens. But also learning from our course providers. The thing I have enjoyed the most is challenging myself in areas of my mind where I wouldn't normally go.... it's been a trying but fascinating week. I am a lot easier on myself and...

  • I really enjoyed this meditation and it did help me with my pain. Just focusing on my breathing always helps.

  • @JanetMordike that sounds like a much better idea Janet thank you.

  • Fantastic advice.

  • @LizBrnjak that is so true Liz I meditate and listen to a lot of mood lifting meditation also relaxation. But..... this is new to me and I think it's a fantastic way of working mainly on myself as a person. A brilliant course and thank you for your advice, I will do. :)

  • I started listening to this then turned it off as I couldn't think of anything that I felt comfortable with revisiting anything emotional right. Now but this is what the course leaders say and the videos and the course itself. I will be going back when I feel more comfortable. It's all part of my learning on this course. :)
