  • I help people communicate their personal brands and professional value, so this course will give me tools to be a better coach.

  • My suggestions about the cause of atopic disorders are:
    ■ Lack of vitamins.I reckon that certain vitamins may be essential to maintain a balanced immune system.
    ■ Indoor life, poor ventilated environments.
    ■ An obsession for cleaning and the increasing use of abrasives.
    ■ Synthetic chemicals omnipresent in food.
    ■ Poor sleep and work overload.

  • Yes, I have many knowledge gaps. Although the explanations are good (really), my poor background in chemistry and biology is a hindrance for a quick grasp of many concepts. It will take me some time to undestand the mechanisms of the processes involved in hypersensitivity.

  • Allergy to respiratory allergens is very common. I sometimes have some wheezing, but my main problem is on the skin.
I must use soap without parfum. My skin also overreacts to some topical medication (especially that that is indicated for the treatment of dermatitis).
Low quality alcoholic drinks and uncareful exposure to sunlight is a mix thatcan also...

  • I've signed up for this course because I want to understand my own body. Some years ago I was diagnosed as atopic. I also have the Gilbert Syndrome and have flexible articulations. I reckon —though doctors tend to disregard my opinion— that these three conditions are related.

  • I had never heard an Irish word before starting this course. I am here for curiosity, mainly about the culture of Ireland.

  • Taking into account that the trend is to build smaller nuclear power plants, nuclear energy seems to be a clean alterantive to carbon.
Some catastrophical events like the ones that took place in Fukushima have worked as a dissuasive factor for the general public. However, nuclear power advocates say that that is not something normal and they may not happen if...

  • At this point, I haven't heard anything about transfusion here.
What about studying the blood of those who have recovered and -possibly- become immune?
Apart from that, are there any studies about some type of blood to be more or less prone to host or fight the virus?

  • The understanding of the spread of the new coronavirus relies on the knowledge of the duration of the infection, the probability of transmission and the average rate of contact.
When it comes with making estimations, there is a problem with unreported cases, and the R0 is made on the base of notified cases.
We still don't know if SARS-COV-2 can be...

  • @ShoonLae I'm happy to help! :D

  • A great insight. A bit hard to grasp for those not in the know.

  • Following your advice, I've created a blog to keep a journal of this course.

I expect to know more about climate change and the ways to carry this situation off.

  • I concur with you, and I think that many people don't realise that many things that affect their life are a consequence of climate change!

  • At a global scale, the key threats of climate change encompass: global warming, the rise of sea levels, melting of glaciers and the survival of endagnered species.
In my country, we have suffered the consequences of climate change because winters tend to be very cold. Sometimes it doesn't rain for long periods of time, hence the rise of food prices. There is...

  • @ShahramSalehizadeh Spot on. That dilemma is shown in the corean film THE FLU.

  • I avoid all forms of human contact, except with some neighbours but keeping a reasonable distance.
I don't even go to the supermarket. Most of the things I need are available in the grocery store near home, but it's sometimes a bit crowded. So, to avoid agglomerations, I ask the stuff via WhatsApp and then go downstairs just to pick my stuff up and pay.
    My...

  • In my country, lockdown is not mandatory, but most of our citizens are united against the virus and voluntariliy self-isolating.
The government banned all forms of agglomeration, and ordered the suspension of public and private courses for one month. The school where I work sent me home and go out every two days, only to buy the necessary staff.

  • Prof Leung talked about "infective" patients, and in a previous lesson Prof Glynn used the term "infectious". I would like to know which word is preferred, if they are used to talk about the same thing.

  • @JoseeVaughn Fortunately, techonology is on our side in this aspect.

  • @ArmelNkongolo That is why I think that compulsory lockdown is not always a good idea. It's better to educate people about the risks they run, so that they can take their own decision to remain at home.

  • @LisaTropea That is a very worrisome issue because, in order to protect his physical well-being, other aspects of his health are being threatend in the psychological and social aspect.

  • Dr Eaton's advice is to provide with help lines to the families or individuals at risk. His recommendations entail: promoting easy communication, facilitating access to basic needs and identifying people at risk (e.g.: those who suffer from disabilities or have pre-existing mental health problems).

  • @StephanieHansen The article linked below the lesson says: "Although the 2009 pandemic of influenza A H1N1 ended up being relatively mild—killing about one in 10,000 people who came down with it—it still claimed more than 14,000 lives across the globe."

    Is that information accurate?

CDC site says that 2009 H1N1 pandemic killed between 151,700-575,400...

  • @HarryCather Thank you so much!

  • The video informs about the stages between infection and recovery.

First, when a person acquires the infection doesn't mean that they are infectious. They become infectious when they are able to transmit the virus.

The problem with SARS-CoV-2 is that a person seems to become infectious right after acquiring the infection, but will become sick days...

  • In Uruguay, we are still on phase 2, because the focus is on containment. However, the authorities have ensured health services can cope with the crisis. There are no deaths yet, but the virus has slowly begun to spread in the community, with 217 infected patients in a 3 and a half million population.

  • In my humble opinion, this video is not easy to understand for a general audience. The course started with general information (the main characteristics of the virus, symptoms, etc., and a chronology of the outbreak) and then jumped to this video with is meant for people who have a background in science. As far as I know, this was not required to take the...

  • @AnnaSeale Watching the video "Whole Genome Sequencing..." I've learned that this technology has been used in the treatment of ebola and tuberculosis and rare diseases.

  • I am here to get some knowledge about pandemics, because I'm worried about the future of mankind. I'm afraid we are at the start of a series of zoonotic illnesses that will threaten our species.

  • I work in the administration of an educational institute, and this course has brought me awareness on infection prevention. Now I can observe plagues and pandemics with an historical approach and differenciate viral from bacterial disease. I have broaden my vocabulary concerning health issues and I'm better prepared to live in a world where these kind of...

  • @RosalieSchultz I asked the mentor this question for the same reason I'm taking the course: I want to understand, I have doubts and I am not in the know. If I was an expert I wouldn't be taking this course and, of course, not asking silly questions.

  • @StephanieHansen Thanks for clarifying. Undoubtedly, the information was wrong. I'll stick to reliable sources.

  • Agreed. It doesn't make sense that the doctor visits the patient before the blood test is taken!

  • I actually derive great pleasure from speaking English.

  • English listening isn't easy at all. I have been putting in a lot of effort during the last years to improve that skill and I think I've brought if off.
    Here are my top tips:
    1. Enrich your vocabulary. You won't be able to understand what is being said if you aren't familiar with the words (reading is the best way).
    2. Watch videos (e.g.: films, talks,...

  • I've been asked these questions normally on the Triage.

  • You're a lucky person!

  • Paddled cell, consulting room, maternity ward

  • I would choose to work in the paediatric ward, too, because I am a father and bringing up my children has been an amazing experience. I have a question: I was taught that Americans called E.R. what the British call 'casualties'. Now I see that in this course the department receives the name A&E. Is it a more updated way to call it or just a different way?

  • It feels a bit awkward. You don't know what you're going to find. May the patient be well, may the patient be bad. Temperatures tend to be high and it feels a bit uncomfortable because you're coming from the street, wearing layers of clothes on winter. The patient's relatives may be there, and if you don't know them you have to introduce yourself. I try to...

  • Oh, thank you, Pete! I loved those trinomials! And also thanks for the helpful piece of advice!

  • @MartinevanDriel I'd like to know if when we call a product for the name of a brand is a form of metonymy. 'Kleenex', for example.

  • "Sex, drugs and rock and roll' is a curious example because 'rock and roll' is a binomial itself. So it functions as a word. I'd say that it is a binomial inside a trinomial. Recursiveness is present here.

  • @PieterLuthi Yes! Although the typical binomial goes with and, other conjunctions can be used.

  • Alejandro Motta made a comment

    What a wonderful exercise!

My binomials are: Quick and dirty. Short and sweet. Toss and turn. Fast and furious. Kind and generous.

The only trinomial I can think of is: sex, drugs and rock'n'roll.

  • Agreed

  • So am I

  • Compelling!

  • Engrossing!

  • And mine

  • Well, this lesson was truly fascinating for me. Our body is so complex, our intestines so huge, compressed in our torso. So many words to learn for me, a non-native speaker of English, in the names of the organs.

  • This blew my mind!

  • No, what you should download is Anaconda. The link is in previous lessons.

  • I'm curious about the degree of consistency between sentiment score and rate score.

  • We can use text analytics to know the sentiment of the clients on sites like TripAdvisor, Booking, PedidosYa, and in social media (Twitter, Facebook and the like).

  • What a great lesson! I look forward to learning more!

  • Thank you so much, Mohammad.

  • What are AWS and Azure?

  • Howdy! It's Alejandro from Uruguay. I enrolled in this course because I want to have a deeper understanding of marketing science. I've taken up many courses with marketing involved -some of them at FL-, and I think this is the right time to go deeper through this compelling course.

  • @SurajPandey Thank you very much!

  • @SurajPandey I erased the folder and unzipped it again. I repeat all the procedures, and now it worked!

Can you tell me which is the character used to format text as fixed font?

    Thanks for your support!

  • @SurajPandey From your explanation, I understand the difference between a Code Cell and a Markdown Cell and how to change them.

I don't see any output between the cells.

What is weird is that between the first two paragraphs and the title of the first exercise, there's this message:

    # this code conceals irrelevant warning messages
    import...

  • Very kind of you Suraj. I appreciate your willingness to help.
I've successfully installed Anaconda and downloaded all the materials.
When I open the notebook I try to do what is said in the video but nothing happens.
The only thing I could do was combining a code with the TAB key. However, once I write a code the cursor jumps to the following field... So...

  • I'm stuck in this part of the course since it started. Although I try, nothing works for me.

  • That would provide great insight. A relationship between number of deaths caused by TB and number of smokers would provide interesting information for startin out.

  • Thanks for the feeback!

  • This video demonstrates the importance of delivering, not just a good product, but an experience. There's a customer who likes the place for allowing him to feel the sun, and young -millenial- customers who appreciate the design and the social atomsphere.
Being handle is another quality of a brand -being accesible-, in the right place.

This is truly important. It's not enough to post regularly, you have to show your own voice!

  • So interesting! Could you tell me how can I find your Twitter account?

  • Undoubtedly, when it comes to consumer satisfaction Amazon is doing great, because they put the consumer above all else. Amazon creates a wonderful experience for the customer, but they don't sell experiences: they only sell goods.

  • Restaurants, hotels and vacation resorts take great benefit from CGM, because users tend to take photos of foods and the places they visit. The industry should motivate them to do that, improving the way their products look and engaging with the clients on social media.
Some consumers turn so popular that they end up becoming professionals, and companies pay...

  • With the breadth and variety of social media platforms available nowadays, it's impossible to be successful in all of them. For a start, you should focus on one and no more than three.
Each platform has its own pecularities and require different styles of communication. And you have to find your own style too, because what works well for others may not work...

  • In my opinion, Twitter and Facebook are not as relevant nowadays as Instagram and LinkedIn. Specially Instagram: it's a very powerful selling platform. Maybe LinkedIn is not so powerful already, but it's a niche for some services, and the brands that are present there are one step ahead.

  • When I travel I book hotels online. It's easier and more practical than calling the hotel and making a reservation. You can do it in the small hours if you need to. And it also allows you to compare prices, to watch photographs and see other guests' commentary. So if you pick a hotel in spite of some critics, at least you know what to expect from the property.

  • Advocacy plays a pivotal role in customer engagement. As Hector De Castro says in his blog: "People who love your brand will introduce you to your new customers. 50% of advocates recommend a brand because they had a good experience with a product or service. Building strong and engaging relationships with your customers is key to the successful communication...
