  • @IvonaKleinova Sure I did. I even contacted my the institution to no avail. I've recently made some applications to Canada and New Zealand but the applications were turned down. But I'm still pushing to see where I could be admitted by using non-institutional references

  • What an amazing experience. I really feel refreshed after a long time from the four walls of school. Thank you for this wonderful course.

  • Joseph Humphrey Kabe made a comment

    Great course

  • I really enjoyed every lesson and this course has given me a better understanding of what it takes to be an impactful communicator in personal and work life. I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to the anchor persons

  • My plan was bold and there are needs for improvement and amendment over time as some activities will phase out to be substituted with new ones

  • I find the example very useful and good guide for developing one's commuincation skills.

  • Years back I always feel timid talking in meeting even in classes. However, as I engaged more in professional life, I developed my ability by listening to people and observing the ways they react and present their opinion in meetings. I think always been in the presence of people who often engage in extensive discussions can groom one to overcome the...

  • Jennifer's approaches are quite effective and align with my line of thought and the ways I have been handling challenging conversations in the work place, especially in meetings.

  • My recommendation:
    1. Build self-confidence
    2. Work hard to overcome anxiety before meetings
    3. Practice public speaking at home and amongst friends
    4. Practice self reflection to build her morale
    5. Always put her ideas/opinions in written form for easy presentation
    6. Always press on to air her opinion even when it's been dominated

  • The approaches that resonate more to me are:
    1. Self reflection
    2. Active listening

Being straightforward and concise will make our communication more effective

  • The tips are very useful. Tip No. 8, is quite effective as I've witnessed people used it.

Challenging conversations are part of working life as they are often used a buy-in. In most cases, challenging conversations when engaged constructively brings out the best solution to a problem.

Personally, I like challenging conversations as they help more to be...

  • I agree with Jennifer. I wouldn't have handled the situations differently.

However, in the first case study, building self-confidence and self composure are essential and will help one to overcome anxiety and fret especially in public speaking. In the second case study, the email message could've been prepared giving ample time for proof reading before...

  • Great exercise. Sure there is no wrong or right answers.

  • Communication is all about one talking, it involves active listening, I love this

  • From my learning, face-to-face and written communication are both effective means of conveying one's line of thought. However, a good communicator must be able to present his line of thought or argument convincingly and persuasively. Fluency and vocality are key, however, the ability to use words coherently exuding a great personality and composure...

  • This week is going to be hand on practice. Looking forward to getting the best out of the course

  • Thanks to the anchor persons

  • Wow!!! the course is awesome. I have indeed learned a lot and the lessons leraned would no doubt further boost my communication skills.

A ver BIG THANK all behind the success of this course.

  • 1. Has your view of the way you communicate changed? From the course, I have learned that one can either react or respond while engaging in communication with other party. Being reactive means not digesting information before presenting a defense, while being respnsive simply means listening keenly to digest information before responding factually. This lesson...

  • 1. I dont think any of the challenges are of intimidating. To me the challenges are all exciting and inspiring.
    2. I will happily take each of the challenges as they are among some of the routine things I often do at my work place
    3. I have a great personal, self confidence, advance written and oral communication as well as interpersonal skills, and computer...

  • Other area Ali could improve or put her communication skills in good use is be acting as facilitator of meetings and other forms of event. This will avail ample opportunity to develop and improve over time

  • In the first case study, I disagree with Jennifer's feedback. I think the first line of communication in this case is through a detail formal email or internal memo to the boss. this could be preceeded by a face-to-face meeting to better expanciate on the argument made in the email or memo.

  • Face-to-face or written form of communication are all effective means of conveying ones intention to the second party. However, the use depends on the circumstance

  • For the company employees:
    1. Doing/sending a formal email to the empoployees to announce the app
2, Formal face-to-face meeting with the employees to explain the features of the app and make some visual presentation on it

    Students/Clients:
    1. Announcing the app via social media through voice and visual presentation
    2. Advertising the app through print...

  • Eye contact is my most preferred. This method to me is more effective as it convey a sense of confidence, wit, and trust.

Nevertheless, in public communication (e.g. audience), the pitch of one's voice goes a long way too. Pacing and making gestures with the hands will help douse one's tension and anxiety.

    Personally, feel better pacing and...

  • I have use all channels and familiar with them. However, one of the channel of communication that where not mentioned is SMS. Messages are often brief but proved very effective.

Also, telephone was not mentioned and discussed. This is one of the foremost means of communication and it is very effective even in modern days.

  • I have learned that:
    1. Communication is ineffective if others are not involved
    2. We must make conscious effort build on our communication skills by developing ourselves by identifying areas of improvement
    3. Working in teams or communicating in teams improves our communication skills over time

Nonetheless, i have also identified that constant...

  • As a new entrant in a work environment, it may neccessary for one to be him/herself to learn the work ethics and relate well with colleagues. Nonetheless, as one begins to fuse oneself in the work environment, one must continually learn to intertwine and form good interpersonal relationship with colleagues and develop professional work ethics. It must be...

  • I am an open-minded person, a good listener and always curious in exploring new grounds and ideas. I believe a system can be made better and improved by exploring novel ideas. As I communicate across board by virtue of my position, I learn from people and provide a level playing ground for new idea to be explored.

  • The "Who You Are" question is a question with infinite answers; the more the question is asked, the more more revelations are made about ourselves. I think there is not descriptive or definitive answer to the answer. Howeverm the beauty is that it makes one to talk more about oneself.

  • I can communicate effectively on one-on-one basis and in group as well. However, I am a straightforward person and not the narrative type. I believe time is of essence and should be maximised to achieve the optimum result.

Although I feel nervous when communicating with my superiors in meetings, I am always confidenct in driving my ideas home.

  • I think we react and respond with the brian and conscious brain most time depending on the situation we are faced with. I think, it is unarguably true that we use our brain and react when confronting a subordinate, and our conscious brain when confronted by our superior.

Whichever way, more effective, efficient and meaningful communication can be spurred by...

  • Hi all. I am Joseph from Nigeria. I work with a NGO/CBO called EGCDF as the Program & Project Manager. I believe participating in this course will further boost the effectiveness and efficiency of my communication and interpersonal skills at the place of work.

I would like to appreciate the anchor persons of this course for making it available for learners...

  • I am delighted to here learning with people from across the globe.

  • Ongoing feedback is more resourceful than multiply iterations. The reason being that ongoing feedback would enable one to effect the needed improvement on products by the clients, which in turn drives productivity and work efficiency

  • Having the right process and tools bring more efficiency and productivity into the work place. This is important for industrial growth and development, however, the expectations would be unachievable without the right people who are willing to work together. In essence, having the right process and tools without the right people equate to zero. On the other...

  • Looking forward to learning all about Agile methodology in project management

  • I'm excited to join millions of learners all over the world on this course. I'm expectant of getting the best

  • It really feels great to see what you have been inovled in become a success story and applauded.

  • Sustainability, globalization and technology; quite interesting

  • I really enjoyed week 1 of the course and have learned a lot and had better understanding of real housewives estate. A BIG thank to the anchor persons and everyone who has made this week a great success.

  • Though the changes weren't explicitly mentioned, but they are coined into the need for sustainable future

  • I'm of the school of thought that buildings should be more adaptive to their environment and resilient as unanticipated changes might occur in the near future that might pose a great threat to the sustenability. The implication is that, if the such consideration(s) aren't taken into cognisance, future requirements of properties might render such buildings...

  • Accommodating or integrating the opinion of all the stakeholders is not possible. However, engaging the the stakeholders in a townhall meeting will give an opportunity for compromise. This is often necessary to ensure common understanding of the whole process.

  • Stakeholders engagement is critical in the planning of infrastructure and execution.

  • Stakeholders under groups 4 and 1, are the most important in real estate development

  • When it comes to investment, economic value comes to the fore. However, developers should be more concerned about environmental and social issues in order to build a sustainable future. I sincerely believe that if an investment or development has a negative environmental and social values, it will be difficult ot thrive.

  • The JV concept allows different investors to bring in resources and expertise togather in pursuit of a common goal. I would say JV partnership is the the best approach to handle project of such magnitude.

  • I have not come across such magnitude of development. However, I hope such would spriing up soon

  • The development is well-thought-out. The investor/developer does not just think about profit but the huge impact it would create economically.

  • A very useful document. Though I am already use to a number of the terms, some are still new to me.

  • I see the table as a planning tool in real estate development. Thanks for making available this awesome tool.

  • Quite interesting!!! The process diagram is so educative and the breakdown makes it easy to grasp.

  • I have great interest in real estate development and contemplating of diversifying my career prospect in that line. If I am peradventure opportune, I would like to do another master degree in real estate management.

  • Literally, properties are know to be built assets that can create opportunity of investment.

  • The scope of a project is closely related to the kind of project and varies. Getting the scope right is key to project success. Thanks Prof. for explaining in details what scoping is all aboutn

  • Critical path; that sounds great. Planning is essential to success. However, in doing this, we must also come to the realization that that their some crucial elements that that cannot be delayed but must be completed at a definite time and date. Not completing such tasks could lead to failure that can affect they whole of the project. Identifying these tasks...

  • In my experience as project manager, is that my plan often has to identify the scope, tasks, dependencies and schedule, the resources needed to successfully implement or execute the project, and risk plan for anticipated eventualities.

There are cases where I have to amend my initial plan to accommodate changes. However, some of the challenges are to get...

  • A loaded week of interesting teaching. Looking forward to getting the best

  • It is a fulfilling week and I have gained a lot from this course. I would like to appreciation Prof. for sharing her in-depth knowledge and experience with us.

  • I could remember when I was handling a construction project of a building and how I made modification/corrections on site as the project advances. When I got to the first floor, I found out that the rooms were too small so I have to provide cantilever to make the rooms more spacious.
Even recently, during the construction of some of our infrastructural...

  • Quite interesting. I just learn about stageGate and I can see how important its to product development and success of a project

  • The project failed at the initial stage when the website was launched due to design errors and unanticipated number of users. However, having taken responsibility for failure, efforts were intensifies and another company contracted to redesign and improve on the features of the website.

It was later reported that after much improvement, the project reduced...

  • The factors identifies are the same as mine

  • The making of the Boyhood me vie was a success as the project was well conceptualized, planned and implemented. Most of the challenges/risk that could've led to the project failure were meticulously addressed. There were commitment on the part of all the parties involved.

However, in the case of BA terminal 5, there was no proper planning. I believe this is...

  • A project can be seen as successful when it delivered on time and within budget and able to fulfill the purpose for it is been implemented.

My recommendation is that during the conception, design and implementation of a project, we should be able to identify and use the right tools, expertise and technology. Understanding also the dynamism of project...

  • 1. How would you define the HealthCare.gove project in terms of scope, timing, and budget? In terms of scope, timing, and budget, the HealthCare.gov can be defined as a complex project. Complex projects are often associated with time and cost overruns due to the intricacy in scope and design.

    2. What do you think was the organization of the project? Who...

  • 1. a) How would you define the HealthCare.gov project? From my own point
of view, it is a complex project in nature as it involves a the design of a website and data hub
    b. What was the scope? The scope is to provide a platform that will enable Americans to purchase an affordable health insurance scheme online
    c. The timing? The timing is inadequate as it...

  • Though have not used any of the grids, but the steps in the stakeholder cycle are often adopted in the formulation of some of the project handled by my organisation. Understanding the Power Interest grid and how it works will help in not the successful delivery of a project but that which meets the needs of the end users.

  • This is a great insight to effective delivery of projects. I believe if one gets these parameters right considering the scope of the intended project and compromise a little in terms of constraints, there would not be much huddle.

  • Sounds awesome and look for to getting the best

  • Hi everyone. I am Joseph from Nigeria. I hold MSc in Civil Engineering and Construction Management from the University of Derby, UK. I am currently the Programs & Project Management of EGCDF.

  • Most of us are driven by scale friendly rather than innovation friendly. I think this is one of the reason why some companies could not thrive in a business environment. To be more innovation friendly might be time consuming but it pays really good at the end

  • Scrum, extreme programming, and Kanban. Just getting to know these methodologies now. Hope to know more

  • Most time we think that people in our team is not collaborative enough because we felt we had it sort out and we got the most brilliant idea. But the reality is that, the most brilliant and near perfect idea always emanates from team work and collaboration.

  • Though i could not play the video but reading through the transcripts help a lot. This is my first time taking a course in Agile and I am intrigued already.

  • I could not play the video but was able to download the transcripts.

  • sounds great

  • Hi Everyone. I hold MSc in Civil Engineering and Construction Management from the University of Derby, UK. I have also completed seven courses on this platform. I currently hold the role of Programs & Project Manager at EGCDF, Nigeria. My expectation was to get a concrete understanding about Agile and Design Thinking to improve in the delivery of projects,

  • Great content. This will be my first time to study about Agile. I look forward to getting the best from this short course.

  • Wow!!! I never got bored following every lesson of this course. The simplicity of how the lessons are interlinked is intriguing and interesting.

I would like to thank everyone who has made this online course possible and a great success. To KINGS COLLEGE LONDON, I say a big thank for making this course free for people to participate. I believe the...

  • I haven't taken any course in business management before but following this course for four week has given me so much know!edge about business and how they are managed. With the knowledge gained, I will be able participate and be more productive in the business environment

  • 1) What did you think was particularly interesting or significant this week?
    - Information management
    - Data protection
    - Business success and it's responsibility

    2) Can you relate what you learned this week to the previous weeks of the course?
All the topics for the weeks are interlinked and coined within the business environment

    3) What are you...

  • Joseph Humphrey Kabe made a comment

With these four weeks, I'm able to learn more about business, people, finance, information, management styles as they relate to business

  • Definitely success often comes with huge responsibility. Once a business becomes success and a high flyer amongst it's rival, it's corporate image becomes a priority. This is a huge responsibility to both the employees and shareholders as every information about customers and company is held in high regards and kept secret except to authorised sources.

  • Everyone feels reluctant leaving their basic information with unknown persons. However, most times, we are constraint give more of our details to them especially when shopping online due to the promise to keep keep such information safe from unauthorised persons.

  • I think the primary purposes of loyalty scheme are:
    1. Attract customers to the business
    2. Retain customers
    3. Encourage cash inflow into the business
    4. Make the business to thrive amongst it's rivals

  • I think a simple loyalty scheme will do for Zahra. For example, a purchase within a certain threshold should be rewarded with a free cup of coffee. Say every 10 or 20 purchases earn the customer a free coffee. This will motivate the customers to come over and even recommend the shop to friends

  • I agree with you

  • S - Efficient coffee machine and business manager
W - Lack of work force
O - Opening/expansion of the shop, offer of new services such as home delivery, catering, etc
T - Finance, competition from similar shops, etc

  • Quite interesting

  • Yes/No answers can be problematic in business because opportunities and challenges have to be tried first. It's through the trial or test running that we would be able to ascertain the validity of such opportunities and challenges. Just like in the law court, an accused is not found guilty until proven guilty, so it's in business.

  • Every business owner would be happy seeing their business grow. Though success comes with challenges, it's a wise decision to accept changes that tend to be challenges. Though it might be daunting and she might likely unprepared for the eventual success, it will be a wise decision to seize the opportunity to expand her business.

    For the financial aspect,...

  • That's right

  • The challenges sense here in the case of Zahars cafe:
    1. the need for expansion due to increased number of customers
    2. The need to hiring more workers to meet customers needs
    3. The need to store larger quantity of coffee and beverages

These in all need finance. This will be a big challenge to Zahara as she might be forced to borrow to expand her...

  • The look of the cafe and the comfort it gives to the customers should key to the both of them.

  • Since Zahara and Ameera have different management styles, the information required by each with them will be different

  • There are still a lot more
