  • HR is centred around people and I agree that it should be a place where individuals feel they can get the support they need to perform well in their role. The connotation of "resources" will have an impact on HR moving forward, and I do believe that Personnel or People Operations could be a better fit.

HR means fostering the growth and personal development of people, whether it's through managing and organising, supporting well-being, etc.

Hi, I'm Kiran and I am a university student who is interested in learning more about HR. I am hoping to explore my career options and see which HR roles I might like to apply for when I graduate next year.

  • A really positive and effective example of performance management would be where I had regular conversations throughout, including a review after each week of my role. It enabled me to benchmark myself against different criteria with a rating score out of 10. I was continuously offered feedback on what I was doing well and how I could improve next time, and...

My best manager really listened to me and made sure that we had regular informal conversations or "check-in's" to see how I was doing. Especially since this was my first job, I found it really reassuring and helpful, allowing me to have confidence in my own abilities and know that I was on the right track.

  • @MichelleBattista Perfect! Thank you so much for this Michelle.

I have heard about the CIPD but I am a student so would love to know about the student membership and if anyone has any experience with this. As well as this, I am interested in the Level 3 Diploma for distance learning after I graduate next year, to help me gain more HR knowledge.
