  • The information gathered should be clear and accessible to everyone , not just those involved in gathering it. I think the visual impact of a graph is really important when presenting results.

  • Thanks James! One step at a time :-)

  • Hi, I'm Joanne from Ireland. Data Analytics is new and scary for me but I am trying to push myself to learn something new and out of my comfort zone. I am also preparing for a project management exam and hoping this will complement my studies there. Good luck everyone.

  • Reading that Yahoo article is quite jarring now in the context of Covid. We are discovering that we can absolutely do what we were always told we couldnt.

  • Many thanks!

  • I know for sure that my next course will be an excel one!

  • I think it's fair to call Covid 19 an unknown unknown!

  • Thank you!

  • I'm not clear on why would necessarily be cheaper later down the line, but you would have a clearer idea of how your budget is holding up. My instinct would have me tend towards ASAP but I would be wary of taking on too much at the same time.

  • Fantastic, I will definitely look at this, it's totally new to me and it looks like even I could use it!

  • I like the table format but I would also benefit from seeing the project flow through the network diagram.

  • I imagine that timeline and budget are considered to be more important and the temptation to forge ahead is very strong. However as we have seen, a detailed brainstorm and examination of the true scope will reveal many details that need to be addressed which may be overlooked if this step is not given the attention it needs.

  • The detailed work breakdown structure is really worth the effort as such a complex project could become overwhelming if all aspects are not considered in advance

  • Interesting case, I wanted to hear more!

  • Off we go...

  • Great, I've already learned a lot!

  • The original objectives were not successfully met however the project has eventually had a successful outcome. It is unfortunate the poor planning from the outside caused a bad start and a huge increase in expenditure.

  • In previous experiences, I've seen projects fail or at least the process became more stressful and inefficient than it needed to be, mainly as a result of lack of proper project management and experienced leadership.

  • The stakeholder cycle seems to be a basic standard process and its great to learn about it. I can foresee both processes being used to complement each other and ensure the project manager is able to foresee potential risks or difficulties which may arise.

  • Really useful, I tend to dive in headfirst to projects but this is a fantastic lesson in where to start and maximise my own time!

  • Great and clear definition, I realise I have worked on projects without really realising it or naming it as such. Mainly, planning a conference as part of the working committee last year.

  • Let's go!

Hello everyone, I'm Joanne from Dublin. I've been working in the field of academic management for most of my career however as a result of Covid 19 I find myself seeking new opportunities. I'm taking this course in advance of potentially taking a formal academic course and I know that I will learn a lot with Future Learn. Enjoy the course everyone!

  • Following your strengths is so important and she recognised that that was the road she needed to take to be really satisfied in her career.

  • It's not always practical but face to face meetings are worth so much more than conversations that may lose, momentum over a long series of emails.

  • I've just started using my LinkedIn account and finding it very useful. I haven't heard of Slack before. https://www.linkedin.com/in/joanne-dalton-67090027

  • I will absolutely be rewording my cover letter !

  • I have someone I would like to approach for advice on moving into a new area so I will prepare a LinkedIn message to introduce myself.

  • Hi Nat, I can relate to you a bit. Ive been in the ELT etc world for a while now. Unfortunately Covid has knocked that on the head and Im looking for a new role. I started a LinkedIn recently and have a few contacts in the EAP world. Feel free to contact me on there if you would like? https://www.linkedin.com/in/joanne-dalton-67090027 Have a lovely...

  • Hi Fahmida, I'm Type 1 myself, Good for you for showing the world what is possible!

  • Good evening all, My name is Joanne and I'm from Dublin, Ireland. I have been in the education field (English language schools and more recently university language programs) I am looking for a new opportunity where I can take my skills and also continue to learn and grow. I started a LinkedIn last week and would love to chat to you there ;)...

  • I appreciate the value of social capital although I've not heard this term used before. At first it sounded quite cynical but I having thought about it I think its names what we already do in our interpersonal communications in our working lives.

  • I love networking events, they are often hectic and busy but they are an invaluable opportunity.

Looking forward to the next lesson!

  • This whole exercise is useful in again breaking down everything we have to offer and motivating us in how to articulate our goals and sell ourselves

  • I haven't heard of the term Value Proposition but it makes perfect sense now.

  • Its made me reflect on how much I over think things and undersell myself. I've found this to be a positive and motivational lesson.

  • I will more than likely have a few attempts at this before i find the best road to follow.

  • I have heard of this before but had a different impression of it. I will definitely use it to help me articulate what I am curious about pursuing!

  • Fantastic video. Im looking forward to coming up with my own statements!

  • Great, no wrong answer really but its encourages me to map out various possible paths

  • Really interesting video. I relate more to Anas because I have never had such a clear vision as Steve and so the ladder approach has never come naturally to me. I relate to how Anas identified his strengths and made them work for him , and created a role for himself rather than settling for roles that did not quite satisfy him. Its very admirable.

  • I see that I have been using the Matrix and Networking method without necessarily naming them as such. The ladder approach may not work for everyone as its so linear, it might not be realistic to progess like this, without at least one or two sideways steps.

  • Thanks for recommendation

  • Covid 19 has presented me with the challenge of looking for new employment. While its certainly stressful , It has forced a lot of self reflections regarding career moves. I didn't have an 'ideal job' when I started but the more experience I get, the more I can see where my strengths lie. I realising that there may be many paths with various twists and turns...

  • Yes, many of us will have to get on board a more tech savvy train but I think its a fantastic opportunity as well. A lot depends of course on infrastructure being in place too. I hope its something that can improve our lives and working conditions in the long fun.

  • Yes I think we are going to be presented with lots of opportunities to improve work life balance. A challenge will be learning how to strike that balance but I think we have chances now that we never had before.

  • I think we are facing another massive shift now again. The modern workplace will have to address questions regarding potential for working from home more, work/life balance and quality of life. Tech will become even more vital which I think the less tech minded can advantage from ( although it might be a challenge at first).

  • Hello all, I'm Joanne from Dublin. I signed up for this course because I am looking for a new job opportunity having been made redundant as a result of Covid 19. I'm looking forward to learning about how to use a vision board to help me articulate my goals. I don't have a strict idea of an ideal career because the more I work and experience life, the more...
