Jenny Gage taught maths in UK 11-18 schools and the Open University, then created resources in the MMP. She still gives workshops based on 'Teaching Probability', and is also a vicar and a granny.

Activity

  • Just get the students to agree what happens in the case of any ambiguity. It doesn't happen that often, and doesn't need to be a big deal. In my classes, we generally agreed to just ignore anything that wasn't clear.

  • Hi Kelly, the problem you note about numbers on dice is pretty well where I got started on this stuff! The teachers in South Africa I was working with found the numbers really confusing. It had never occurred to me ... But then I started wondering about 11 year-olds back in the UK, maybe they too were confused by the numbers ...
