Hi everyone, welcome to the course! My name is Dana and I will be here to support you along your online learning journey!

Hi Tim, I definitely agree. these should be everywhere and it provides a space for not only youth but, for adults as well to have that creative outlet where they can learn and apply so much of their learnings.
-
Dana Augustin replied to Terence Tang
@ElenaJiménez I would say between the ages of 7-18 really.
-
Dana Augustin replied to Fiona (Fifi) Perry
Hi Fiona, that's a really great idea, your students will find many different ways and ideas to creatively build their robots in ways they never though of. There are more examples in this throughout the course, especially in the case studies.
-
Hi Tami, do you think if you reach out to them they would allow you to view the space?
-
Dana Augustin replied to هلال الطنطاوي
Hi Helal, welcome, congrats on your decision, an awesome one at that too!

Hi all, welcome to the Build A Makerspace course! There is a great course with a lot of great resources, how-tos, and case studies you will be able to learn from.
-
Great idea to ask parents, there's always a lot of leftover items lying around that would be great for makerspaces!
-
Agreed, becomes better when all involved have the passion for the project that you are working on.
-
Dana Augustin replied to Cristina Ongaro
Wow congrats and good luck!!

-
Dana Augustin replied to Terence Tang
Hi Terence, welcome to the course, your little ones will definitely be impressed by how much they can tinker and create with just regular items around them! I'm sure they'll be inspired.

Hi everyone, welcome to the course, it's very in depth and provides a lot of great context, details, and example to help you build an awesome maker-space for your learners. I'm Dana and I'll be hanging around to help out but, to also meet you all to hear about all the awesome stuff you are doing.
-
Awesome, this is great to hear!
-
Wow, that is incredible, what are some ideas that you have around reaching others in the ADHD and deaf communities?
-
Dana Augustin made a comment
How are the action plans coming along?
-
Great idea, then it's easy to see which materials you might want to expand on it and the ones that get used the least can definetly be incorporated into other projects like you said!
-
It is great to hear you have such an eager and amazing team behind you. Having team members like that makes the work a lot more easy and enjoyable!
-
Definitely check your local pharmacy!
-
What would help to change minds? Sometimes when people see things in action and how effective it is to the students, it's then they understand the impact that can be had
-
I think starting off small is the best way to go. Use what you have and add in some extra crafts supplies. Maybe you have some supplies lying around in your learning environment or even in some basement in your school that you could use.
-
Yes, controlled chaos is great to let students explore and allow them to make mistakes!
-

Have you reached out to anyone in your network to help with volunteering or support? Sometimes the older kids you work can be considered an option as well.
-
Dana Augustin replied to Lisa H
Hi Lisa, that is a very important point you made there, there are many different ways to read and write and it is good to allow your students different ways of expression.
-

I think I know what you are talking, I have a faint memory of it but -yes this stem bus would be great to go to rural communities where young kids don't have access to these resources. It's great exposure.
-
Dana Augustin replied to Juan Leon
Sounds like a plan!
-
That's a great way to start

If you are able to have older children who can participate or act as volunteers perhaps it can help with having enough supervision for objects and items the little ones can't use.
