I am doing composting and mulching regularly. There is a huge improvement and changing of soil color and now have a beautiful smell.
Compost is healing substance. I used it to heal my cherries from aphids and find it very effective. -

I vote for sharing, because my soil is very very poor, so need to make it sustainable with composting and soil regeneration procedures.

I am an omnivore and I am proud of it. LOL :)))
About 80% of vegetables and fruits I am growing at my allotment or foraging from environment, also with mushrooms. But I am dependent to buy cereals (wheat, rise, corn) from city store and meat from stores or people who rise the animals (mostly pigs and birds) and have also to buy milk and cheese.

Most of growers are not engineers. I am applauding your efforts to make us interested, but we are just few in the ocean of growers. That is a reason why you should give one peace of such remote sensing device for free and when people get used to it, they gonna ask for more.

Sensors can provide me a continuous and precise information about my soil - that can be priceless.

My allotment is located at river island, with south-southwest slope to the very sharp river bank. Soil is sand and pebbles. The lowest part near the river is under shade of some trees, also the west side where neighbor have planted some fruit trees.
First my soil was yellow sand, like in this movie. Than I make compost pile at one corner, and was amazed that... -
Of course that I am using fermented straw for mulching and making better soil, but I do not have remote sensing devices installed at my allotment. Only have few ordinary thermometers for control a temperature inside-outside my hoop tunnels.

First thought since I read this lesson is to use precipitation data from weather sites for my area to understand how much nitrogen I have to add into my garden. That data are free and open source.

It was hard to dig into very rocky soil which is covered with thin layer of weeds. I have dominantly send soil and have to work a lot on mulching and composting to grow my food. That is not a surprise, but I am very glad to learn this cheep and practical measurement technique.

My soil have more than 80% rocks
30 mm of sand and just traces of other materials in water.
This is a river island so I am not surprised. -

Usually have two compost mounds on opposite parts of garden. Grass clippings, straw, guinea pigs and sheep manure, kitchen scrapings, leaves, branches and parts of herbs after harvesting are my composition.
Warms, vineyard snails and fungus are usual citizens here. Otters and dogs eat my warms very often.

My small garden is organic and I maintain to make a good soil primarily. I started it few years ago and, even if I have more experiments and experience than most of people in my area, I consider myself beginner.

Actually we have an Old Kalendar, based of ancient megalithic observatory Kokino (Gorne Nagorichane) https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Kokino, but it is more concerned about weather conditions and right time of doing agricultural work. Proverbs are mostly concerned about DO NOT SELL A LAND customs.

O horizon is tiny about 1-2 cm, covered with grass and some weeds. A horizon is about 10 cm deep with nice dark color and small pebbles. B horizon below is yellow send with more and bigger pebbles.

I am living in temperate climate zone where different grasses grows the best. When choosing a position for my plants, I have to consider insulation during year. That means to notice shadows from neighboring houses, trees and bushes. Because my soil is send and river rocks, I noticed effects of slope position, that water do not dry very quick on micro low area....

My garden faces south and has slight slope facing south and ending with river bank. There are also two micro lows and micro highs. There is also a mound I made for hugelkultur north to south direction.

My growing possibilities are very affected by the location. There is a mountain into the South that make my place do not have direct sunlight during Winter. Of course that it make a restrictions so I have to manage what and when to plant my grows.

Hello from Serbia, border area of Park Nature and UNESCO MAB 'Golija-Studenica'. My small farm is at the bottom of river Ibar gorge, only sand and stones without humus. I am making soil here to establish garden and share my experience to community. Hope to learn more advanced scientific way to do so and help my community and world to be full of healthy food.
