I've traveled quite a bit and anytime I am somewhere that speaks a language other than English, I make every effort to say anything and everything I can in their native tongue. Even if it's just one word - most people truly appreciate the effort and every little bit helps me to speak and understand more. :)

I would love to move to Norway one day so this will be a great headstart for me. I normally learn best by using flashcards to memorize words and trying to talk to natives (or others fluent in my target language). :)
