  • @ImogenPrickett can you send me an email to leadership@rcvs.org.uk just briefly letting me know where you're up to with things. Thanks!

  • @MelloraSharman your reference to self-talk is really interesting, thanks for raising it. I wonder how often that negative or persecutory inner voice gets in the way of us from fully appreciating what's happening (a question for everyone). In this scenario what if Jenna's inner voice had been kinder and suggested that the silence from the Appleyards was the...

  • @RachelThompson welcome! I'm so pleased you're here and using the course to support you as you step up into your new role. I'd wager you're already leading in practice in so many ways but the course will encourage you to reflect on your experiences of doing this to help you understand and develop your skills further still. Enjoy the journey - I look forward to...

  • Hi @FerneJones great to have you onboard. I look forward to reading the experiences you share about your journey. Good luck.

  • Welcome @RosieWelsh thanks for sharing this - it sounds like you're in the right place. I look forward to reading your experiences.

  • Hi all and welcome to the Jenner programme. It's great to have you onboard and ready to start your leadership journey. I know we've got an increased number of undergrads embarking on the course for this run, which is fantastic - I'm convinced you'll get a lot from it - and so pleasing we could figure out the practicalities. This is quite a practical programme...

  • Thanks so much to everyone who has been able to help with the research into diversities, motivations and leadership perspectives!

All data on FutureLearn is anonymised.

The questions asking about your personal view of leadership allow us to research the change of understanding of leadership at the start and the end of each course. There is no correct...

  • Hello All.

Welcome to the latest run of the Edward Jenner Veterinary Leadership programme. I'm so glad you could join us.

I’m Leadership Initiatives Manager at the RCVS. I was part of the team that helped to develop the Jenner programme.

My interests are principally two-fold. First, to play my part in helping you to engage with the course. I’ve no...

  • Hi, if you're reading this now, I would recommend that you leave this course run (which started on 27th April) and restart on the latest run of the programme that began yesterday. If you find you have any issues, you can contact me at leadership@rcvs.org.uk

  • Hi @ImogenPrickett It's great to see you here. Before you go further can I suggest that you try to join the latest run of the course which started yesterday. If you do that you'll go through it with a much larger cohort of learners in 'real-time', many of whom are also undergrads. Any problems email me at: leadership@rcvs.org.uk

  • @MiltiadisMarkou That's great to hear. The programme emphasises doing and it's fantastic that you're embracing this - and even better, sharing it with your colleagues. Presumably doing so helps with your reflections too! Enjoy the rest of the course, I look forward to hearing about your progress.

  • @CherylCorless your final point is really important. I like how you've highlighted how bringing expectations in line with reality often relies on open communication and, along with it, trust.

  • @EB I love this analysis and the humility at the end!

  • Hi All! Thanks for taking the time to provide your thoughts on the course - it's massively helpful for us to have these! If you can, do also complete the survey as that's an important part of our evaluation. I look forward to seeing many of you again on course 2. Bw and stay well, Oliver

  • Oliver Glackin made a comment

Hi, I look forward to welcoming everyone back for course 2. I'm Oliver and I work at the RCVS as its leadership initiatives manager I was part of the team that develop the programme. It's wonderful to have seen all members of the vet team embrace it with such relish since its launch.

Taking what I've learnt and what's been discussed in the previous course I...

  • @RebeccaLunn thank you for this and highlighting the importance of communicating and listening. An essential tool is also how we question. Questioning can be a powerful means to encourage co-creation of new ideas and insights. The art of asking powerful questions can be developed with practice. A question for everyone really - what sort of questions help us to...

  • Hi all, thanks to those who pointed out the longer video above is no longer available. We've now taken details of it down whilst we resolve the technical glitch.

  • @NoravanGenugten I hope you're making a good recovery - most of all from being weirded out! Thanks for sharing - your judgment towards the GP receptionist seemed to moderate quite quickly. Did this happen in-action or on-action?

  • @LouisaDovey thanks for sharing your analysis. I'm particularly taken by the second part of what you've written and your touching on learning from experience - what do you think Jenna can learn from the emotional reaction she experienced and how should she move forward using the guide above? And this is for everyone - how do we learn from our emotional reactions?

  • @JuliaCox I think your presentation makes an important point about how Jenna responds to the owners' shock and the silence associated with this and you question some of the assumptions Jenna took as truth. Jenna infers criticism from them and doubt about her advice rather than what it was: their reaction to the realisation Toffee was gravely ill.

  • @JenniferStock thanks for sharing - enjoy the journey!

  • @KayleighMay welcome! I'm so pleased you're here and using your time at home to get yourself ready to take the step into a formal leadership role. I'd wager you're already leading in practice in many ways and as you're encouraged by the programme to reflect on your experiences you'll start to realise this. Enjoy the journey - I look forward to reading your...

  • @AmyOlivant what brilliant motivation and a worthy goal!

  • @CeriWall it's great to hear you talking positively about your ambition to become a leader and your readiness to lay down the foundations for that now. Enjoy the programme, I look forward to reading about how you're getting on in future weeks.

  • @LauraSnyman @DouglasPalmer Thank you both for sharing your thoughts and experiences. You've made me consider the duality of self doubt - it being a limiting factor - where fear dominates, thus blunting action and then a useful instinct that provides checks and balances. This has made me more curious about the tension that's raised when confronted with similar...

  • @MillieMintey bonne chance!

  • @AdamSheridan thanks for sharing this and being so frank. The programme will help with all this and so will the attitude you're approaching it with. I look forward to reading the experiences you share about your journey. Good luck.

  • Hello All.

I’m Leadership Initiatives Manager at the RCVS. I was part of the team that helped to develop the Jenner programme.

If you're reading this now, I would recommend that you search for the latest run of the course that started yesterday.

My interests are principally two-fold. First, to play my part in helping you to engage with the course....

  • Hi @DouglasPalmer and welcome! Reflection happens when we slow down and notice things - most pertinent here being how our actions impact those around us. Our current slowdown and the circumstances making it necessary are unavoidable but be assured the programme still offers a lot to you - although I can't guarantee immediate room tidying! Enjoy the leadership...

  • @TamaravanDoorn it sounds like you're in the right place to do all these things, although like all of us it may ask you to step beyond your comfort zone into a new spaces as you try out your leadership practice. I look forward to hearing about how you get on here. Enjoy the programme.

  • @NickJackson welcome and thanks for sharing this. You've already taken the first and, arguably, hardest step it seems! This is quite a practical programme. And learning opportunities you'll find are everywhere. Slow down - if you're not already being asked to - reflect and notice things. Much of the programme is about the way we affect those around us. It will...

  • @ruthgloster thanks for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear that the programme has not met your expectations. We are currently evaluating the programme and as part of that process we are talking to a number of learners to hear, in more detail, about their experiences. I would like to encourage you to take part in this as your views are important to us. You can do...

  • Hi @JillMacdonald there isn't a compendium as you describe but @ClaireHobson makes the good point that most of the learning resources can be downloaded. There is the option to have unlimited access to the course material for as long as the course exists (see above), however. This might ease the pressure you feel to urgently log all the ground covered.

  • Dear Orly, thanks for your interest. These will be incorporated into an evaluation of the programme a piece of work which is currently underway.

  • @ChloeHannigan @NicoleA Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. With regard to the leadership instruments, you should feel free to answer them in the way that feels right to you - it sounds like that is what you've done. There's no correct approach to responding. However, I wouldn't recommend spending too much time weighing up your answers.

  • 1) Hello, I’m Oliver. I’m Leadership Initiatives Manager at the RCVS. I was part of the team that helped to develop the Jenner programme. I’m also pursuing a doctorate in leadership and management – which has me curious, bewildered and thrilled often simultaneously.
    2) My interests are principally two-fold. First, to play my part in helping you to engage with...

  • Thank you so much for sharing and you're not rambling at all. It's great that you're so readily overlaying the framework onto your experiences and able to draw out the key learning points from these.

  • I agree! We're still collecting the data as learners continue to fill out the survey.

  • Erika, thanks so much for taking the time. It's so important to us that learners do.

  • Beverley I'm glad you found the model helpful. I'd be interested to know more about the aspects of it that you discovered to be particularly resonant.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I'm interested in your reaction to it - could you say more on the thoughts it provoked?

  • Dear Zoe, thanks for your observation. With regard to the leadership instruments you should feel free to answer them in whatever way feels correct to you, which it sounds like you have.

  • There is no correct approach to responding to the leadership instruments at the end of the questionnaire. Albeit I wouldn't recommend spending too much time weighing up your answer. You should feel free to respond in whatever way feels correct - as you've demonstrated.

  • Hi @EbonyEscalona thanks for your comment. This is a well researched instrument that explores a particular aspect of leadership. I don't want to go too much further in offering an explanation as it might influence people's responses. I would say though that the way those questions you've highlighted are responded to does unpack the point I think you're raising
