Lead educators, thank you very much for all the hard work that you have done to make this course a great one. One of the things that I have learned is the flipped classroom. I like this concept very much. I will put into practice this and all the other concepts as needed. Thanks again and all the best in your teaching and learning journey!

  • Much thanks to your for all the useful feedback. I appreciate it.

  • Special thanks to the Lead Educators for doing an excellent job. I have enjoyed all lessons. I have definitely learnt a great deal of information that I will put into practice. I like the way how you have incorporated the human in the teaching by letting us write things down! :)

  • I recently joined Teaching English as a Foreign Language and British Council Teacher Community group on Facebook.

  • Another activity that online teachers can do to reflect their lesson is to take a poll after each lesson from the student about it. Then and use the result to make the necessary adjustments.

  • I have included attending webinars. They are one of my key learning resources.

  • Thanks for the useful information.

  • Great assessment tools. I do not know of any other English assessment tools to test the level of learners. However, if I want to know specific details about the learners such as vocabulary or grammar, I will create my own assessment.

  • Another tip to help an online teacher run an effective business is giving monthly report of student accomplishments (classwork, assessment, attendance, homework etc.). In this way, the student get to have a visual of their learning outcomes during the learning journey. It will help motivate them to perform well in their lessons.

  • My best way for attracting students will be through social media. I will keep them by giving quality lessons with valuable feedback, and developing good rapport with them.

  • These tools are amazing! I can use Liveworksheets by using worksheets from what I have prepared or textbook (source information will be on the sheet) to make it interactive for learners to complete. A tool I will use for grammar and vocabulary is this online crossword puzzle maker: https://crosswordlabs.com/.

  • Interesting and effective videos. Both video ideas are good for the flip classroom. Educators make their decision whether to record their own teaching video or use a curated one based on the teaching and learning needs.

  • Good point. The tools are there to complement the learning and teaching needs. Both educators and students need to be knowledgeable about the tools as long as they are needed. You can get tutorials for tools on YouTube and let the learners watch them. If a learner has any problems learning the tools then you can have a one-on-one lesson to find solutions.

  • The learners are fifteen year old females. The language point is the future tense. The context is using the future tense to include in conversations about upcoming events. For example, the learners will be given a task to plan a birthday party for one of them. They are required to use the future tense in their conversations to plan for the birthday party. The...

  • I think that getting the students to speak based on scenarios and creative topics are useful for language building.

  • Great creative thinking. I like your ideas especially, the pantomime.

  • For face-to-face, I will share a dialogue between two persons to show vocabulary and grammar. To bring it to online teaching, I will use a visual aid like a comic strip to show the conversation. An example of a practice is, I will ask learners to find the verbs in the comic.

  • I will use visual aids to show grammar and vocabulary. For example, I will show a picture of a girl riding a bicycle and the learner will say what they see in a sentence.

  • A wonderful week of the learning journey!

  • This is amazing! I look forward for next week! Thanks again for making this a great course to be enrolled in.

  • @FelicityBaker-Schaefer Give yourself a cake and ice-cream treat!

  • Thank you for the access to the course and helpful resources. I appreciate all the work that has been done to make this course a great one to enroll in. I look forward for a wonderful Week 4.

  • Thanks for the useful questions. I am glad that I am taking this course. It is a great learning experience for me.

  • @KarenArkwright Keeping the human in technology is one of the factors for online learning. Even in this very course, I like how the Lead Educators have used instructions to write answers on a piece of paper for most of the lessons.

  • I think the online learners will find all the tools useful because Storybird, Book Creator and Make Beliefs Comix will enforce creativity. Also, Write & Improve will encourage learners to write and they will get vital feedback.

  • I will like to explore further the track changes in Microsoft Word. This looks like a good tool to see what changes has been made to the shared document with the learner. I am familiar with Screen-cast-o-matic and comments in Microsoft Word, which are helpful and effective.

  • An online teacher can deliver feedback on a learner's writing in an online context is to use the MS Word Comments to place the feedback for the writing. Also, the teacher can record the feedback using Screencast-o-matic, Camstasia or another screen recorder.

  • For a writing lesson to teach numbers from one to twenty, I will say the number and I will call on a student to type the number in the chat box that I have said. I will repeat this until I have mentioned all the numbers.

  • I like Forvo, EnglishCentral and Sound Foundations interactive phonemic chart. They seem to be user-friendly, which makes the learners interact with them to get good learning outcomes.

  • A pronunciation challenge students can face is making the sound for "th". In a one-on-one lesson, I will move closely to the camera and repeat the pronunciation of the word so that the student will see how my tongue and mouth are arranged to make the "th" sound.

  • Great incorporation of the poll! I like Ana and Tony's ideas.

  • These are some great discoveries in the creative technology world! I like all of them. It is so awesome to see how technology is playing a major role in teaching and learning.

  • The tasks were challenging to do because I had to listen carefully for pronunciation of words and grammar. However, I like to take notes so it was a good exercise.

  • @MoniqueWilkinson Thank you! Great document. It is now part of my resources.

  • In face-to-face lesson I will give the feedback after everyone give their responses. In online, I will give my feedback during the lesson after every task via the whiteboard.

  • To address everyone talking at the same time, if it is permitted where you live, record the sessions. This is a form of online classroom control. The psychology of this is that, the learners know that their actions will be recorded so their behaviour might be subtle.

  • I think the problem with teaching online groups is if the group is over 15. Groups should be in a small size so that the teacher meets everyone learning needs.

  • For me, I will deal with a weaker learner in the lesson be observing how the learner responds to tasks and give corrections where necessary. Then I will offer to meet with the learner on a one-on-one basis to give further help.

  • Thank you. I anticipate great teachings!

  • To adapt the lesson for group learners, Cristina can have each learner deliver their output for the instructions given. Then she gives a general feedback to the learners with the share screen feature. If there is a need to address a few learners individually, she can do so in the private chat.

  • Speaking activities I can use in a lesson is to put learners in groups of two for them to have a dialogue about the specific topic and to have learners talk about what they have learnt in some of the previous lessons.

Putting students in groups of two can be adapted in online learning by using the Zoom breakout room to place learners in groups of two. Also,...

  • I think they are speaking about how to teach the speaking and writing skills.

  • Thanks a million to the Lead Educators for all the helpful information and resources. Learning is definitely taking place and I will put it in practice.

  • Thanks for the amazing questions and responses. I do not have any at the moment. I am getting excellent information about teaching English online.

  • I suggest https://learnenglishteens.britishcouncil.org/skills/listening for teenage learners. I recommend it because the website is user friendly and it is filled with helpful information that teachers can use to teach the listening skills for different levels.

  • My suggestion of a listening activity is to read ten sentences to teenage learners and they have to write the verb that they have heard from each sentence. The listening sub-skill that will help the learners develop is to listen for the key points and key words or phrases.

  • A live listening task for adults is identifying types of clothing and colours. I will describe five types of clothing with their colours that are at a store in the mall. The task I will set is, a Microsoft Word document with ten different pictures of clothing, the learners will have to circle the five clothing that I have described.

  • The challenge I foresee that occur while teaching listening skills is that the learner might misinterpret my pronunciation of words. I can overcome this by having a proper headset with a microphone that will eliminate background noise and enforces clear speech.

  • The website I will mostly use to teach English to learners is Breaking News English because it provides my main needs of a teaching resource. That is, reliable, authentic and provides efficient lesson plans and materials. I appreciate other resources too.

  • Before class, I will email the learners the handouts in PDF format so the learners will get acquainted in what I will be teaching. During class, I will share a small portion of the PDF reading material with the share screen option. In this way the learners get to see what I want them to read.

  • Great activity! I like how the scenarios address my understanding of the situations when learners are given reading tasks for home and in the lesson.

  • Thanks for the helpful information on whether adult learners can read during the online session or outside of the online session. It is all about the kind of reading they are doing and the information the teacher wants them to capture. Thanks again.

  • I think the listening skills will be the most difficult to teach because of unwanted background sound. This is an issue that can occur during online teaching so both the teachers and students have to ensure that they can clearly hear each other within a quiet environment.

  • Thanks again for these amazing teaching resources. I definitely look forward to experience what Week 2 has to offer.

  • I am making a guess that we will be learning how to use Padlet in Week 2. They can do an activity during class and out of class. Also, you have hinted that we will be learning about Padlet next week!

  • Thank you very much for these resources, they are very helpful. The course is great. I am impressed by the unique fill-in the gap activities that encourages learning from the videos.

  • Most of the questions that I had in mind had already been asked. Thank you for this great course. I am enjoying it.

  • In my opinion, you look at the features of each of the platforms and compare them with your teaching and learning needs. Then you choose "the one."

  • I agree, it is great to do that! Trial run of lessons will build your confidence.

  • You are right about that. We cannot assume the learners know the platform. One of the main things that I learned from teaching is that a student will confidently say, I know how to do this... but when the time comes for the student to execute it, the student cannot do it. I have to always remind myself to go about teaching with the assumption that the students...

  • I agree time management challenges can arise because if you are having problems with your internet, this is time that is going in your lesson until you resolve the internet.

  • I think the biggest problem for when starting to teach online is to ensure that the learners are comfortable in using the teaching platform. I think this is a challenge because some learners may have difficulty in remembering some of the functions of the icons in the platform. To overcome that, whenever, I begin a lesson I will remind the students the...

  • A good way to build rapport is to have discussions on what the students like doing in their spare time.

  • One way I think an online teacher of English can develop good rapport with their learners and maintain motivation throughout a lesson is ask each learner to say the country their live in and give a facial gesture to describe how they feel about the country.

  • For me to adapt the material for a group online lesson is using Zoom breakout rooms. The students are placed in groups of four and the students in the group get to share their screen with each other to collaborate on a document that will have the text that they want to read. I will give them time to practice then go to each group and play the role of a parent...

  • Great lesson! I enjoy learning new strategies to teaching English online.

  • Consider the following example where the teachers and students can use an interactive whiteboard in an online lesson:
The teacher says a fruit name in English and each student is given the opportunity to draw the fruit the teacher is speaking about.

  • Skype will be the best platform for me to use for the online lessons because it is free to use, which is economical and provides the learning and teaching needs that are useful. I like the face that screen sharing and personalized/blurred background.

Also, despite it lack the group collaboration with the interactive whiteboard and breakout rooms, to get...

  • Thanks, I will!

  • As you continue to use the technology, you will start building your confidence to use it.

  • When using these features in one-on-one or group lesson, the challenges I face is unexpected background noise. To prevent background noise, I am using a headset that provides background noise prevention.

  • Do you use Zoom?

  • I will use Zoom because it will meet my needs of sharing my screen with learners and I can place learners in groups to do activities, which will promote collaboration.

  • Thanks for sharing. Thus, far I have only been using Zoom for computer skills training.

  • Thanks for the useful information. I appreciate it. I like using Zoom for software skills training.

  • The main reason I am interested in teaching English online is to get the opportunity to reach non-English speakers to effectively learn the English language.

  • I am comfortable teaching all learners. I have taught computer skills to all different age groups so I can teach English to all different age groups. I prefer to teach learners from around the world and I will like to teach for myself.

  • Thank you for offering the course. I look forward to gain knowledge on how to teach English online to individuals who do not speak it.

  • Much thanks for this course. I have learnt a great deal of information about digital marketing. My favourite topic for the course is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). I know that this will help bring awareness of websites. This is a useful tool for me. Another favourite is the Banner Ad, they will be strategically placed in the location of the target audience...

  • Thank you very much for this opportunity to learn new topics for this digital age. I will put into practice what I have learnt by doing actual digital campaigns for the projects that I am involved in. Thanks again.

  • Kerrisha Nelson made a comment

The target customer I choose is Daisy, a mother of three children under the age of ten who are starting a new school year in September. For the digital market channels, I choose Email and Banner Ad. Email advertising is sending emails of advertisements to customers and Banner Ad is advertisements paced on websites that will show up in the target user area....

  • Thank you for the excellent information. The job description is clear on what is expected from the job candidate. Also, the explanations are good.

  • I think it is important to use digital marketing campaigns together because each one has their unique role to play in bringing customers to the business. I have not noticed any brand that does integrated digital marketing.

  • The most interesting thing I have learnt so far is defining SEO and email marketing.

  • Email Marketing is still relevant because not everyone uses Social Media. This niche can still be reached.

  • I received an email from a great online store about a 40% discount for a specific weekend. I made my purchases and I was pleased.

  • I am interested to find about how Yahoo, Outlook and Gmail uses our emails to attract advertisers.

  • Indeed practice, practice, practice, will help improve the confidence to build the SEO skills and abilities.

  • @MelissaThompson Well said.

  • Great remarks. I agree.

  • These are some great food for thought. SEO is helpful and it is needed for online businesses that wants to improve their online visibility.

  • In this activity I am looking forward to discovering the innovative ways to increase websites visibility in search engines. Also, I love to see how technology is showing how businesses can improve their operations to increase revenue.

  • I agree because they will appear on the target audience website.

  • The key digital marketing strategies for a clothing business is to offer a store-wide one-week sale of 40%. The techniques that I will use are banner ads.
