  • See Michael Smith's reply to Valentine just below.....

  • I think it depends on how you view the test. If you sit down and try to do it straight off, expecting it to be a test of what you've just covered, then I agree that the material doesn't have the necessary breadth for it. But if you view it as another opportunity to look up things, to take time to research an answer, and then attempt the solution, then it's...

  • There are a lot of comments about Chloe reporting a 10/10 pain but it not appearing that way. The issue for the paramedics is then how to deal with that. Is it a case of poor reporting by the patient? Is it really bad when it's bad but not bad now? Or is there something much deeper going on, not necessarily physical in origin, and if so how might you address...

  • NAI - non-accidental injury

  • This is a very good, and important, observation. NAI (non-accidental injury) is something to be aware of.

  • In this case the fluid bolus was not justified. Cam was already thinking about DKA : a big clue is the history of excessive thirst. In reality, Cam would never have given a bolus to Ben, but we put it in to explore the possibility.....

  • [educator] A number of people have requested a glossary to help: we have created another step, 2.32, where people can post terms they'd like input on, and we invite others to help them by answering. Unanswered ones will then be addressed by the education team as necessary. We hope it makes things...

  • [educator] thanks, we've made it clear it's a question about hand, foot and mouth disease.

  • [educator] We appreciate that some of the questions in the tests are technical and challenging - but there is no need for you to take the tests if you don't wish to, as you can still continue with the material. Alternatively, you can take a best-guess at the answer, based on the material we've covered, and then the feedback should give you some more...

  • [educator] can you elaborate on why this is the case?

  • In a neonate, this would be a red flag, but in a child the actual number is less of an indicator of sepsis than the appearance of the child and the other physiological features. For example, the flu virus causes high temperatures, but this is not a significant issue.

  • I've discussed this with the team, and whilst it's impossible to be certain from this distance, it's likely to be normal as most children have deviations from symmetric because of the sutures in the skull. However, if you are at all concerned, we suggest you get it checked out by the GP. However, please be reassured that many, if not all, children bump their...

  • both things are true. There's a lot of research to suggest that we treat computers as social beings anyway, despite us knowing they are computers, and so it makes some sort of sense to give them more appropriate emotional responses too. But the work is also about allowing them to understand our emotional state, so that they can respond more appropriately.

  • thanks for the comments - it's interesting that people do seem to like and use Siri, for example, which suggests that more natural comms with computers is desirable, at least for some activities…..

  • and see Dermott's comment below

  • drugs, wiring setups, synaptic changes, etc?

  • analysis of situation to establish evidence and facts from which a coherent story of what happened can be established

  • (off topic, I know) bit frustrated with the test - multiple answer mcq gives no guidance as to which bits are right and wrong…..

  • interesting.....
