Hoping for tips on how to trace unexpected DNA results, especially Scottish and Irish.

Reached brick walls in my Ancestry tree, but DNA results showed 3% Scottish, 8% Irish, and 14% Swedish, so my curiosity is piqued! Looking forward to this course.

My paternal grandather’s cousin married a woman of Scottish descent. Can I say I have Scottish links through her? (I would love to be able to!).

I have been using a combination of Ancestry.Co.uk and notes my mother made before dementia took hold.
Can anyone please tell me if ‘I can claim Scottish heritage through the mother of a recently discovered cousin of my paternal grandfather? -

Hi, I am Ray, 65, a full-time carer. I am -articulately intrigued by stories about Scottish links told by my mother before dementia set in. In particular, my maternal grandfather is said to have been transferred from the East Surrey Regt to a Scottish regiment during WW1.

I am 65 and a full-time carer for my partner. My only connections with Scotland are being a best man at a wedding in Elgin (wearing Hunting Stewart), a week in Stirling, and a grandad who was moved from the East Surrey’s (when they were disbanded) to the Scots Guards (I believe) during WW1. However, I have a strong sense of wanting to belong to Scotland in...

I am interested in whether fact and fiction changes over time. For example, the song ‘Fly me to the moon’ may have been fanciful when it was written, but is perhaps less so in the 21st century.

For me, a good song is like good art, it can arouse emotions and, as others have said, transport us to another place, another time, another world. This is why music and art can help people with mental health issues or difficult circumstances.

I too look forward to this. I think know that although South Korea has strong cultural identity ties to its East Asia neighbours, their history and current potential threat will ensure a continued and possible lying strengthened link between South Korea and the US, assuming of course that the new US president does not shake that balance!

I feel China will inevitally wield a strong influence over North Korea due to its own economic and military power coupled with historical political ties. I think that North Korea is pursuing a relentless program of military expansion in preparing for a strengthened alliance with China and an increased hostility towards the West.
