Thanks for your reply. I get your point. I only asked because of exactly what you mentioned in your last paragraph. It is usually the norm that people will try to divert your change process when they are not totally comfortable with. This can be also the case with the current protests in the US, where the black lives matter campaign is being pushed back and...
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Ellie Demetri
I agree. In my opinion that it can be possible if the right laws are in place and the right people/campaigns are behind to make sure such laws are applied and accessible by all. That's what good change is all about. Even in communist state there could be breaches...
-
Thanks. I like the way you explained it. Power is an important factor to consider when trying to influence the change process
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to K L
@KL You are right, petitions aren't the only way as you know and as the course illustrated. Also petitions can take various forms. Here is a link that you might find useful: https://ctb.ku.edu/en/table-of-contents/advocacy/direct-action/petition-drive/main

Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Chelsea l
Can you provide an example? A campaign you liked the most or was part of.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Elizabeth I
Interesting!
-
Good analysis!
-
Good. How about the power issues, what do you think?
-
Interesting! Do you agree that modern day slavery can occur anywhere despite to a country's/region economical status or developmental level?
-
Thanks for sharing. What powers whether visible or invisible are the reason behind child marriage and child labor?
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Pimpatchara Komalarajun
True. Once one is brought to this life they start practicing their powers in the society immediately. Sometimes being silent or not doing anything is a power in itself, it can be negative or positive though.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Kate L
Indeed. Thanks for sharing!
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Catherine Knight
True. In the example you mentioned, the scope of power the president have might be larger than yours and has greater impact but in general, you are more powerful than the president, because you can change the president or the decisions he/she made. The power of good change has no limits and runs beyond the scope of those we give power to, such as presidents,...
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Miracle Obialor
Correct. The knowledge and experience of how to use the power we have, no matter how small or limited and our ability to practice it as individuals, as well as groups, is also a power.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Shirley Imandojemu
True...
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Malin Daviknes
Power is more than being of a certain race or gender. Yes, one's race or gender can grant them access to certain rights but that doesn't necessarily mean that others don't or can't access the same rights. Power is the ability to drive change and influence others. As power can be granted by otherssuch as laws and governments, it can also be demanded and...
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Jennifer Ramos
That's true, but power can also be in our ability to change an undesirable situation. Yes, there are others who have certain privileges but that doesn't mean that you or others can't have access to them as well. Change can happen even under the worse conditions!
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to jjj kkk
You're right. Power can be described as a two edged sword. This course is called: how yo make good change happen. The word "good" implies that good change is important to reduce or eliminate the negative impacts of unhealthy behaviour and the power abuse exercised by some.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Ellie Demetri
Do you think that power can be distributed equally?
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Mel Faragher
Correct! This course provides some examples of what you have mentioned.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Janene Ware

-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Gerda Sanchez
Access is an important mean of power. It's good that you realise that.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Fef M
True!
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to John Owens
Right. Power can also be in our ability to resist the power exerted over us by others. Do you agree?
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Barbara Kerr
Where does power come from? That's a good question. Hopefully, you will be able to get an answer to it by the end of this course. Good luck!
-
I can't agree more. It's for moments like these that we feel the need of laws that protect the most vulnerable. Well done!
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Ella E
Sounds like the world I would love to be living in!
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Amy K
This is the dream. Do you think the majority of men an boys feel empowered from birth to the end of their lives?
-
Perfect! Good luck
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Bernadette C
@BernadetteC looks good. All the best!
-
Hi there. Welcome to the course. It seems you are well aware of what you really want to change. We hope that this course will help you better achieve it. Good luck!
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Tobias J
Hi. Welcome to the course. We hope that you will learn more about making change happen in the coming weeks. There is nothing impossible, all what you have to do is believe!
-
Hi. Welcome to the course! You have a good list of "change" you would like to make. There have been various attempts to achieve the results you are seeking and there have been some progress here and there. It will be good that you read more about how others have pursued/achieved similar goals. After all, at many times, we learn from the experience of others,...
-
Hi, welcome to the course. Homelessness could mean a variety of things, do you think the forms of homelessness defined by ETHOS are the only types? How do you think the change you are seeking would look like? You don't have to answer any of these now, just try keeping them in mind throughout the course. Happy learning!
-
Hi. In your opinion, what country/law is better addressing such an issue? Is there a benchmark?
-
Hi there. Welcome to the course, we hope it will help you achieve your quest. From your experience, are you affected by the payment gap currently practiced against Latinas? Whether yes or no, how do you feel about it?
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Juan Arita
There has been some progress regarding that, but you are still right, more is needed indeed. In your opinion, how do you think that can be achieved?
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Glen Tarman
Hi there. Hope this course will help you drive the change you seek.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Ana Lima
That's really important what you have mentioned. Enjoy the journey.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Nikki Pullen
Hi there, welcome to this course! Gender equality is an interesting topic, we hope this course will help you and many others to reduce the period from 200 years to soon. As you mentioned, there have been some progress and more is what positive change is all about. Good luck!
-
@BeckyLouise you can do it!
-
It's always a good practice to be aware of the challenges that accomoanies te change process. To be able to drive change one must first address challenges and ways to overcome them.
-
That's a good point @CatherineWilliams
-
We are always bound to the rules of the community/family/country we live in/within and different rules apply in different places but they are always present. The idea is not to remove/cancel habits, it's more about common sense. Habits are good as long as they are not harming others, mainly the most vulnerable.
-
Thanks. Keep up!
-
@AlisonHill doing something is better than not doing anything at all. You are right, there is more than a solution to a problem.
-
Agree but also challenging means there is hope that one day such challenges could be overcame. Change is never an easy process...
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Glenys Ihaka
I am so sorry to hear that. I wish you all the best.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Catherine Williams
There is always a point. We are listening! Making change is about what you believe in and not what others do. Many times during the change process people won't listen, should we give up?
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Gillian Newman
Time is all what we have. This is really great. Best of luck! http://www.highlandoneworld.org.uk/news/item/139-our-changemakers-plan-the-start-the-change-festival?fbclid=IwAR3LedJAZ_dmcT05qvxJUwX-wqFGsEIBB9oDjAXbZG3vUu-wNz9C-FimO2U
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Becky Louise
I like that!
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Ruby Sleigh
Thanks for sharing .
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Catherine Williams
It's good that you also realize the challenges that comes with the solution. Some people don't..
-
The three points you mentioned are excellent!
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Ernso Melay
Thanks for your reply
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Maria S
@MariaS that's a good approach. Well done!
-
That's a nice way to put it. I will listen to this song again...
-
Change starts with one person. Well done!
-
Cool video!
-
You're right! We are all human beings, equal and completing each other. The more supportive to each other we are, the more we will enjoy our rights, together, as one, thus, further prosper. Following this approach, in my opinion, speeds up evolution and makes us indestructible!
-
@BethS Vulnerability has no limit, it can be anywhere and everywhere. There are people/laws/governments who abuse such vulnerabilities and that's not fair to us all. Vulnerability is not just to be acted against because of a certain weakness/es, it's also about not being aware or able to make positive change happen...
-
Civil society organisations as you have learned were established for such a purpose. People must be able to drive good change, locally and globally, rather than just being controlled by unfair laws and corrupted governments.
-
That's great!
-
That's great! Remeber that people forget and always need to be reminded, such campaigns must continue for as long as the issue persists. That's why many brands spend millions to market their products, it's simply because, people forget!
-
Well done! It is good to expand your knowledge and read more about a subject. Learning is a continuous process...
-
Nothing is impossible!
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Beth S
That's good to know. All the best!
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Alison Hill
Cool. Do you think other things can be added to your sphere of control? Like your connections, or maybe studies/research from trusted sources that support your change plan for example...
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Beth S
@BethS Yes, is enthusiasm or the desire to see good change happen enough for change to actually happen? I will leave taht to you to answer. Throughout the course and by reading the additional material provided, you will be able to figure it out yourself. Good luck!
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Becky Louise
Interesting! How can you influence attitudes in your opinion?
-
It's interesting that you haven't identified the government and those with power as a concern! Why?
-
Totally right, just as long as their rights doesn't exceed the limit to the extent it starts harming others. Having a right has accountability attached to it at times but in general you are totally right.
-
@CatherineWilliams that's true. Over confidence is also an issue as lack of it might be, the power is to be balanced, not just that. Sometimes it is good to be not confident while at others over confidence is just what's needed.
-
Yes, we all face that sometimes and believe me it takes a lot of courage to admit that. Goodluck!
-
That's a good realization of the term "power". Thanks for sharing
-
You are right, there are so many challenges accompanying the change process, yet, once someone start it, it gets easier and many people will join to help. A thousand miles journey starts with a single step.
-
That's true! More about it will be discussed in coming weeks.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Alison Hill
Can you provide an example of citizen power that you like the most?
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Beth S
@BethS In your opinion do you thi k that's enough to drive change? Why?
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Gillian Newman
@GillianNewman that's such a good cause. It's the power of tou both actually. You are not merely a facilitator, limiting your role might limit the benefits those in need require.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Maria S
@MariaS why do you think it's important for children to have power in the educational structure in the example you mentioned and according to your experience and role as a teacher?
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Alina BL
You are right! Well done! Sharing this help people in so many ways, sometimes all what people need is a good example.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Marsha Rakestraw
This is true but when you are consumed by the so many demands imposed by evil powers you become weakened and have no power nor resources to fight back or change, that's why change in many cases requires more than a will, it requires influence and capacity to raise awareness, empower others and most of all drive good change in the right manner with minimal loss.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Catherine Williams
That's powerful. We learn from the past without living in it and plan for the future without missing the present. Time is an illusion, we are past, present and future and the change we seek for the future, wish we had in the past is many people's good present that we want to live as a present one day.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Gillian Newman
In normal settings, power is great and we need women, men and children to feel empowered and in control of their lives and choices, what makes power abusive is not power itself but weakness of others and lack of laws or application of laws that protect ad empower the vulnerable and weak.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Marie Hooper
In your opinion, do you think that access to power must be limited so those who might abuse it won't be able to do so, or you think that it should be fought back by an opposite power of goodness?
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Alina BL
Doesn't power also mean the ability to be influenced by other. Vulnerable people doesn't only lack the power to influence or choose, but they might also fall in the radar of tose with the power to control and abuse, right?
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to B C
@CatherineWilliams I totally agree, it's a mutual responsibility between parents and content providers.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Glenys Ihaka
I am sorry this is still happening but you ar nit alone in this fight. The change you desire will happen sooner or later and it is good that you are motivated to be part of it.
-
This is all good conversation happening here. Diversity is a good thing that adds flavour to our existence. Huge benefits could be achieved if we managed to learn how to accept our differences and coexist as one. I would like to see how your change plan will be developed during the course.
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to B C
Isn't that currently active? Parental control over the use of the internet is available. How do you think it can be improved?
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Alison Hill
Also planting trees would be good for a change rather than deforestation. Good choice!
-
Ibrahim Alwazir replied to Ernso Melay
What is wrong with current rural houses? The change we want is better described as the opposite of what we are not currently satisfied with.
-
Can you be more specific? What's happening now that you believe must change and how will that change look? How will students, teachers and the community in general benefit?
-
Goodluck!
-
You have been part of it and that is practical experience my friend. This course will help you learn more about the change theory and how to make it happen.
-
This is good approach. Civil society organisations play a major role in diverting certain approaches back to righteousness and inclusion.
-
Interesting! How strong is your belief on what you are aiming for? It is important....
-
You're in the right place...
-
That's what making change is mostly about...
