  • Morning all, looking forward to this course and getting factual information on Coronavirus.

  • Women had no rights at all, even over children they had given birth to. They were dependent on men for everything, whether it was a husband, father or brother. Women were considered physically weaker but morally superior to men. I think 19th century literature has given me this viewpoint and I think it is a fairly realistic view.

  • Savings potentially offer security as you cannot predict the future, although they don't necessarily keep up with inflation.

  • The survey is not current, (2012/2013). The situation could be very different now. Also savings or investments could be in something like property which is not easily encashed or stocks and shares where the value could drop significantly.

  • A good book is one that seizes my imagination, makes me want to carry on reading and I want more when it ends. I think my current favourite novel would be Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.

Hi, I'm interested in generally learning more about crime and justice in society. I am particularly interested in the role of the police as my former job in social care showed me that the police don't just deal with crime, they deal with a lot of people who are vulnerable and who have mental health problems.

  • I can't get it to play. It says it will commence shortly.

  • Even primary sources aren't necessarily accurate. When my husband registered my oldest daughters birth he had my birthplace recorded as Lambeth. It's actually Wandsworth.

  • My father wrote some things down for me, my grandmother talked about some things, for example she was a scullery maid and worked her way up to being a cook. I would love to know where she worked.

  • Yes I use Ancestry as well.

I started researching my family tree as my husband had found some of his ancestors. I am particularly interested in finding out more about his mother who he could never find a birth certificate for.

  • Last time I studied maths formally was at numeracy classes at a local adult college 20 years ago, I went onto a GCSE course but had such difficulty understanding the concepts I left.

  • Maths has always been a struggle for me.
