Incidents, disruptions and crises introduce high degrees of uncertainty and complex challenges to the normal functioning of systems. The impact of critical incidents can quickly pose a serious threat to both the internal and/or external operating environment for organisations.

This program aims to provide you with the decision making, communications and stakeholder management skills you need to effectively assess internal and external risk contexts and apply appropriate approaches for managing risks within organisations.

Who will you learn with?

I am an ex Local Authority emergency planner, with 8 years experience. I have been teaching for 4 years in Crisis & Disaster Management and have also conducted research in disaster recovery in Italy.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this program, you should be able to:

  • Evaluate theories, concepts and models that are associated with crisis and continuity in an organisational context

  • Evaluate the drivers for and the role of business continuity and crisis management in the context of business and enterprise risk management, as well as techniques for managing the complex and dynamic risks faced by the public, commercial, industrial and third sector organisations

  • Evaluate a range of business continuity planning techniques at operational and strategic levels and review case study approaches and define good practice

  • Critically analyse evolving contexts and their risks to reputation and apply effective crisis communications and media management strategies
