Welcome to the ADH790: Research Project Capstone, the final program in the Masters of Development and Humanitarian Action.

This program is part of the Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Action degree offered by Deakin University

Integrate and apply academic research, established concepts, and recognised design and development interventions to contemporary humanitarian issues.

Develop creative solutions to contemporary humanitarian issues by drawing on academic research, established concepts, and recognised design and development interventions. ADH790 synthesizes the theories and approaches learned across all the programs in the Masters of Development and Humanitarian Action.

Who will you learn with?

Professor Matthew Clarke is Head of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Deakin University, Australia. He has more than two decades experience working in the development sector.

Educator, trainer, academic and researcher in the field of humanitarian and development aid.

Learning outcomes

  • Undertake independent research into contemporary development / humanitarian theory and practice to identify and critically analyse complex contextual issues and challenges facing actors responding to development / humanitarian scenarios in a global context.

  • Critically evaluate the efficacy of a range of approaches to collaboration, participation and achievement of identified and agreed upon outcomes through active engagement with academic research, sector principles and professional practice.

  • Engage in academic research to generate unique and creative solutions to achieving social justice, reducing poverty, and promoting environmental sustainability that will create renewed global environments conducive to communities leading fulfilling and sustainable lives.

  • Perform as a self-reflective and independent practitioner capable of planning, implementing and evaluating creative responses to complex global development and humanitarian challenges.
