Understand the key concepts and methodology of penetration testing

Cyber security is widely recognised as a crucial aspect of company success in the modern world. Many forward-thinking companies now seek to strengthen their systems by employing specialists to attack them and identify weaknesses.

As such, ethical hacking – or penetration testing – continues to grow as a field of specialism within computing.

This program covers the latest techniques of penetration testing and provides practical experience in selecting and applying suitable tools and techniques, as well as assessing vulnerabilities and advising on how to secure cyber systems.

Who will you learn with?

Dr. Christo Panchev is a Senior Lecturer in Cyber Security at Coventry University with more than 20 years experience in industry and higher education, research and teaching in A.I. and Cyber Security.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this program, you should be able to:

  • Discuss the legality and scope of ethical hacking and critically evaluate the legal and ethical issues relating to examples of this technique
  • Evaluate and justify a suitable methodology and tools for penetration testing of a system
  • Conduct an ethically-based system penetration test using an appropriate methodology to explore weaknesses in a system
  • Evaluate and report a penetration test of a system to a professional standard, recommending and specifying suitable countermeasures.
