This program will give you an overview of accounting conventions.

You will understand how to appraise the financial performance of construction firms through the use of ratio analysis to appraise profitability, liquidity, efficiency and risk.

You will explore the role DFC techniques play in investment decisions and evaluate a range of budgetary techniques used to control the performance of construction firms.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this program, you should be able to:

  • Evaluate basic accounting conventions and principles which guide the preparation of financial statements.

  • Appraise financial performance (profit and loss account; balance sheet) of construction firms.

  • Evaluate Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) techniques to asset management and appraise construction investment decisions.

  • Evaluate budgetary techniques to control and analyse performance of construction firms.

  • Appraise cost, volume, profit techniques in the analysis of construction firms.

  • Evaluate cost control and earned value analysis for a simple construction project.
