Global Development in Practice: Understanding development contexts

Learn how development managers work and gain practical development management skills.

This program is part of the PgC Global Development Management degree offered by The Open University

Discover how development managers instigate social change

This is the second program of a set of four that makes up the Open University module Global development in practice (D890).

This program focuses on the development landscape and outlines the different institutions and organisations operating in this sector. You’ll consider the role of the state, of public and private sector institutions and organisations along with civil society networks in shaping the development agenda and enacting social change. The complicated relationships between these institutions and organisations will be investigated and you’ll start to learn about development management tools that can be used to gain a better understanding of complex development contexts. You’ll have the opportunity to practice these development management tools using current case studies.

You will start to develop the study skills necessary for postgraduate study and work towards an assessment task.
