Explore the principles and practice of project management in construction

Project management plays an increasingly important role within organisations. This program will cover the phases of a project cycle and introduce you to fundamental project management practices, focusing on global construction projects.

You will explore the tools, techniques and methodologies required of you to plan, monitor and control large and small projects in a global context. You will learn how to develop a project evaluation process taking into account human and physical resource needs.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this program, you should be able to:

• Critically evaluate and appraise the theories and methodologies in project management with the particular emphasis in global construction projects.

  • Critically analyse and evaluate time, scope and budgetary techniques to an international project and provide an activity-based breakdown of the work using commercial planning software. This includes a critical assessment of the human and physical resource needs.

  • Critically evaluate and develop a project evaluation process and quality management that includes performance evaluation requirements.

  • Critically evaluate and appraise project control processes and mechanism and demonstrate competence at an advanced level in applying the tools, techniques and methodologies of project management to plan, monitor and control both large and small global projects.

  • Evaluate and apply key variables impacting on strategies to managing risks and develop alternative approaches in managing projects based on the application of soft system methodology.
