Understand the complexity of health systems to lead innovation in healthcare

This program will give you the opportunity to demonstrate a critical understanding of the impact of culture, values and complexity on and within health and social care organisations and systems. You will have the opportunity to consider management theory, its critical application, and seek to understand the challenges of leading and managing complex systems and services and a highly professionalised workforce. You will have the opportunity to critically evaluate the impact on systems and organisations delivering services to patients and service users.

Ike teaches healthcare leadership & management. A Senior Fellow of HEA; he brings over 15 years of leadership and management experience in global health and development practice and higher education.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of complex systems and the key concepts in systems thinking and complexity within the health and care sectors

  • Demonstrate a critical understanding and analysis of the challenges of leading change and innovation across complex systems within health and care

  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of the factors which contribute to organisational culture on and within health and care organisations

  • Reflect critically on the key concepts of power, culture and influence and their potential impact across systems and at the different levels of organisations
