Welcome to this Deakin unit where you will demonstrate your ability to contribute to and advance trends and practices in IT.

Demonstrate your Mastery of Information Technology

In this unit you will engage in the dissemination of professional skills and abilities, integrating knowledge and experience from your workplace, to contribute to and advance trends and practices in a field of IT. This unit has been designed for you to demonstrate your mastery of theorising practice through a publication. You will draft a paper ready for publication in a journal, conference or for a technical audience in the IT discipline. In order to judge your holistic vision, you will also create a visual presentation of your findings and present them to your supervisor and/or panel.

Who will you learn with?

Seng is Professor in Computer Science at the School of Information Technology at Deakin University. He also co-leads Deakin's Internet of Things Platforms and Applications Lab.

Learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate an advanced and integrated understanding of a complex body of knowledge in one or more discipline areas for generating a substantial contribution to knowledge and/or scholarship within a field of IT.

  • Articulate aspirations and intended activities through a contract to effectively theorise practice and thereby demonstrate expertise, personal and professional capabilities and competencies.

  • Apply critical analysis and reflection to ethically research, synthesize, evaluate and disseminate complex information, problems, concepts, interpretations and theories to engage a range of audience in cognitive and technical discussions.
  • Effectively disseminate deliverables to a variety of audiences using highly developed communication skills and work productively within a team of experts in the field.

  • Demonstrate autonomy, expert judgement, adaptability, initiative, resilience, and responsibility as a professional practitioner or researcher.
