Consider the political nature of evidence for policymaking in healthcare.

This program aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to analyse and influence the health policy process in the 21st century. You will have the opportunity to consider the different systems of government and the evolution of policy in differing political contexts. You will have the opportunity to consider practical examples of the implementation of policy in specific contexts with a critical reading of the resulting tensions.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion you should be able to:

  • Critically analyse how national politics and policy making is influenced by globalisation and demographic change; and the impact these have on local decision- making about service delivery and resource allocation.
  • Critically review the leadership challenges in implementing policy changes at a local level, including marketing and communicating the changes internally and externally
  • Critically evaluate how the implementation of policy is sustained through governance and regulatory mechanisms in local organisations
  • Examine and evaluate local responses to national and international policy drivers and critically discuss the tensions which can arise when policy is translated into practice.
