Reflect upon key concepts as an emergent leader and manager

This program offers students the opportunity to critically evaluate theoretical principles of leadership and management which can then be applied to future practice. The program covers leadership and management, personal effectiveness, management of resources, management of people and explores current literature.

The program offers students the opportunity to reflect on their qualities as an emergent leader and/or manager, and to consider how to develop themselves for their future practice.

Upon successful completion, you should be able to:

  • Identify and critically reflect your own personal strengths using theory and models to identify areas of personal development as a future leader and manager
  • Critically reflect on your own values and qualities, evaluating these against the literature base of current healthcare leaders and managers
  • Critically appraise the theory of leadership and management, evaluating the necessary characteristics of a modern healthcare leader and manager
  • Critically evaluate the complexity of leadership and management in the healthcare environment, appraising the differences required for effective teamwork
