This program is part of the Property and Real Estate degree offered by Deakin University
Welcome to the program

This unit aims to give an understanding of the property market including land economics, urban economic geography, and valuation in the broader property market.

On completion, students should be able to:

  • evaluate the property market and sub-markets by applying financial concepts and taking into account local (urban) issues such as expectations for growth

  • prepare a ‘property market’ report

  • prepare property valuations using the three primary approaches to valuation

  • explain the role of property in the built environment, urban planning, investment environment, design and construction.

Tom Keel

Tom has an MBA and a B.Bus degree and enjoys a diverse career in education, business and development. He has been lecturing in property at Deakin for over three years.

Bill Dimovski

DBA MBA BBus CPA AAPI. Bill has worked at the University for over 30 years, mostly part-time, allowing him to develop/build over 1200 residences and shops plus be involved in many land subdivisions.

Learning outcomes

  • Define and explain the basic concepts, valuation methods and language of property.

  • Critically analyse markets, growth in the markets and factors affecting property prices, using property language.

  • Estimate the price of property, using various methods including a comparison of sales approach.
