Coventry University program

Simulation for Global Logistics

Explore ways to design and improve logistics operations to increase cost-effectiveness, improve decision-making and reduce risk.

This program is part of the MSc Global Logistics degree offered by Coventry University

Understand the impact of your logistics decisions before they are implemented

This program focuses on modelling business processes and their relationships within typical logistics operations. It introduces simulation tools and techniques, which can be used to understand and then solve logistics problems at their operational level.

You’ll have the opportunity to analyse logistics processes using a number of process mapping techniques, and you’ll use simulation approaches and software tools to analyse logistics problems and suggest solutions.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this program, you should be able to:

  • Appraise the principles and techniques associated with business analysis and simulation modelling of logistics and supply chain operations

  • Evaluate and model the disruption factors of a logistics operational problem using simulation techniques such as discrete event simulation, system dynamics and Monte Carlo sampling

  • Apply business process modelling and simulation techniques to solve a range of situations which can occur in logistics or supply chain operations at airports, ports, rail terminals, and other transport facilities, warehouses, retailers or manufacturers

  • Predict and proactively resolve any operational disruptions using simulation tools to support decision making
