The PGCert in Global Sustainability Solutions is the flagship programme of Exeter’s sustainability solutions-oriented institute, the Global Systems Institute (GSI).
On the degree, you’ll gain the expertise to create and communicate strategies that address the most urgent sustainability challenges globally. Together with world-leading researchers and aspiring green professionals, you’ll work to advance a sustainable future.
Discover systems thinking and environmental economics
Throughout the degree, you’ll be introduced to key concepts in global sustainability, with a focus on systems thinking, environmental economics, and ESG (environmental, social, and governance).
You’ll learn about the crucial importance of all of these areas in generating new sustainability solutions and achieving net zero.

To join this Postgraduate Certificate, you should have a minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate degree in any subject area.
We will also consider applications from candidates who do not have a 2:2 degree, but who can demonstrate exceptional performance in modules relevant to the content of the PGCert, significant relevant professional experience, and/or professional qualifications.
English language requirements
International students will need to provide evidence of one of the following English language proficiency scores:
- IELTS: 6.5 overall and no less than 6 in any section
- TOEFL: 90 with minimum scores of 21 for writing,listening, reading and speaking. MyBest scores are not accepted
- PTE: 67 with no less than 64 in all communicative skills
- LanguageCert International ESOL SELT: B2 Communicator with minimum 39 in speaking, writing, listening, reading.
- INTO Pre-sessional English: 65 and no less than 60 in any sub-section
The PGCert addresses contemporary sustainability challenges and equips its learners to apply systems thinking and strategies to solve sustainability problems in a variety of environments and contexts.
