The Exercise is Medicine initiative

Physical activity has an important role in the prevention and treatment of various chronic diseases.

Physical activity has an important role in the prevention and treatment of various chronic diseases. Nevertheless, there has been a worldwide significant decrease in physical activity levels in recent decades. That’s where Exercise is Medicine®️ (EIM) starts.

Exercise is Medicine is a global health initiative managed by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). The goal of EIM is to make the assessment and promotion of physical activity a standard in clinical settings by linking healthcare systems with evidence-based physical activity. EIM encourages healthcare professionals to include physical activity in the therapeutic pathways by referring patients to evidence-based exercise programs by qualified professionals. EIM is committed to promoting physical activity for health and exercise as an integral part of the prevention and treatment of many medical conditions.

In this video, Professor Andrea Ermolao, Associate Professor and Head of the Sports and Exercise Medicine Division at the University of Padova, talks about the Italian Initiative of Exercise is Medicine, its Mission and Vision, and some of the ongoing working projects.
